Watching the Geelong v Collingwood game last night I think the person who had the greatest impact on the game was the Geelong Coach. Scott out-coached Malthouse to win the game. He did it on the day with strategy and match-ups, and he did it with the tweaking of a champion team, minus a champion player, over the pre-season. Introducing new players, re-assigning experienced players, and re-designing aspects of the game-plan have been the keys, along with a general freshness that a new coach brings. Lets face it, not a lot needed to change, but he has changed things.

When Geelong and Fremantle go head to head it is going to provide a fantastic edge to the contest for me as a supporter. We are teams at different stages of development, and our development has benefited from having Scott's presence. Of course they impact every game, but I think good coaches jag 3-4 games a season from their coaching in individual games. How Harvey and Scott go head to head will be very interesting.

Err... think you're a bit behind the times Gav. They met in Round 2 and the Cats got the choccies on the back of Freo's inaccuracy in front of goal. They do not meet up again this h/a season.
Geelong looked awsome last night... they play the Pies again in Round 24. :)

Well thanks for that, and I was aware of it. My interest is a little more long-term.

Not offended at all.

The Harvey v Scott future coaching stoushes don't interest you?

Scott's debut season has a bit of a head start don't you think? He inherited a team of champions in need of a tuneup. I think he's done exactly what they needed and its why he got the job.

By the time our squad is firing with such veteran play, the Cats will have had quite a few champions leave the game..

Exactly. Imagine Hill, Fyfe, Morabito, Barlow etc when they are the same age as Johnson, Chapman, Kelly, Bartel.

The Other thing to consider with Collingwood last night, is the fact that they are currently the benchmark. Scott had to come up with something, whereas Malthouse was in the 'this is how we roll' position.

It was a great contest and for a coach in his first season impressive.

I think their key here is Jolly....crunching a few numbers and here is what I have:

Jolly, played 4 games, total hit outs when Jolly plays (139), average (34.75), average +/- (-1.75)
Wood, played 3 games, total hit outs when Wood plays (84), average (28), average +/- (-24.75)

The key here is the +/- stat. Without Jolly, the pies gets smashed in the ruck...that's why they got him....jolly plays on Friday, and he becomes the difference between a win and a loss. IMO
