Re: Outcoached..........You betcha.

Just a question but what is our game plan?

Our mids continually chase the ball into our forward 50 but once its cleared its straight down the other end with very little hassle and our mids standing around wondering what happened.
They dont build a wall to stop the ball coming out and they dont work hard enough on applying pressure.
Forward line resembles pagans plan KICK THE BLOODY THING LONG TO FEV AT ALL COSTS. If Fev is double and triple teamed where the **** are our loose forwards? I'll tell ya where leading into the bloody boundary or getting in Fevs way when they should be trying to get into space on their own in a position to kick a goal.........not on the boundary 50 out.
( forward line pressure is shocking....apart from Betts)
Backline is a mystery.........Setanta played some bloody good footy down back and thats where he should go.......why dont our ruckman drop back and fill holes in defense? Waite must go forward forget this backline shit his best is forward.......Setanta,Jamison,Bower,Thornton, with the rest off half back.
Forward set up would be dangerous with Fev,Waite,Fish,Hoops etc and could kick a decent score.

Just my opinion.
Just your opinion but a pretty damn good one if you ask me! I've been a fan of the idea of Waite holding down chb but think he may play his best footy as a roaming forward and can't argue with your set ups in both areas. Setanta has got to put on a bit more conditioning after illness and our midfield has to at least put on some token pressure when the ball is going the other way but that looks the goods:thumbsu:

In 2006 we beat the Roos by 7 goals at the G with Thompson playing. I feel confident we'll do it again
I give them every chance against the Roos. They looked very fit the other night and that is always more important than last year's form in the first few weeks of a new season.

You guys have no idea of the talents of Connors and Edwards. They'll overtake players like Betts and Simpson in no time. Polo is better than you think and Cogs can get back to his best :)

You're still here? Considering once again I find myself wasting my time reading your dribble, justify why Connors and Edwards will overtake players like Betts and Simpson.

First of all, Betts is a small forward and is nowhere near the class of Kade Simpson, but hey, that just goes to show your lack of knowledge once again.

Simpson is a good small outsider. Wouldn't say he's a game breaker.

Carlton were beaten by a better side who were missing 4 very talented players. Polo, Coughlan, Connors and Edwards. That's half a quality midfield. Next time we play you we will beat you by 10 goals. You guys have a bunch of no names. Fev is just a talented but undisciplined player. Simpson, Betts, Gibbs, Scotland, Walker, Bannister, Bower, Cloke, Grigg, Hadley etc are all just a bunch of average-good players at best. No team in the league has such a weak list. What gives Blues fans the right to ever bragg about their team? You have Fisher, Murphy, Judd, Stevens, Carazzo, Ohailpin, Waite, Houlihan, Kruezer, Hampson, Fevola to build your club around. But you will need a couple more clean outs to be considered a threat. You will want to have better midfielders than Stevens too. He's talented but a soft player and he would only be a 5th or 6th best midfielder in a premiership team. Your midfield was outplayed by an undermanned Tiger midfield and you were outclassed up forward and in defence. Blues fans are delusional. Melbourne have a better list than you and when they have a full fit team they'll beat you by 5 goals :thumbsu:

You have been taking it up the poo poo too often, some Larry Long Prong has speared you in the brain and turned you into a mentally challenged person.

I do not understand why Ratten left out Saddington. I consider him to be nearly the best defender we have. I'd play him over thornton.

It is no shame to be outcoached by Terry, even the likes of Kevin Sheedy can put their hand up in that group (remember 2000 season?)

With his job on the line Terry was always going to pack a few punches this week. Talking up Kane Johnson as Judd's tagger before sending Daniel Jackson instead, naming Jay Schulz at FF then starting him in a BP, the games had started before the first bounce.

I've always maintained it's pretty damn hard for supporters to judge a coach's performance (especially on TV), but it wouldn't be tyhe first time a new coach was out-coached by a senior one.

And Connors and Edwards are....?

Look, I know this is your board and you shouldn't have to put up with opposition supporters bragging about their players here. Since you haven't got a reasonable response yet thought I should try give one.

Daniel Connors is basically a young Nick Dal Santo with mongrel. Tipped to go #6 in the superdraft (Dal Santo #9?) but his mongrel attitude saw him drop.

2nd AFL match he collected 25 possessions... 1st AFL match he went up to Barry Hall and got into a scuffle :)eek::eek:). Finally a Richmond midfielder with great skills.

Shane Edwards, this one was getting BOG's all year last year outside AFL matches where he just got 15-ish freakish possies instead. An aboriginal skinny mid who played 16(?) games in year 1 is pretty unheard of. One of those mids with that magic touch/quick footy brain, great to watch.

I didn't really expect much respect towards players you've never heard of, especially when they are talked about as superstars. But for the first time in a while Richmond have got a couple of decent looking youngsters :thumbsu:

No doubt you guys know how it feels to have a couple of gems waiting to come into the side ;) (Hampson, Kreuzer, Benjamin, etc)

Hate to say this but Ratten got outcoached by wallet last night. Had the game by scruff of the neck and let it go....

1) Ruck choice - Cloke and Setanta got killed and were our ineffectiveness in ruck contests largely contributed to our midfield getting beaten in 3Q/4Q.

2) Waite - good first half but they kept dragging him to goal square. Maybe move him forward or at least in a better rebound position.

3) Jamo - needed more support. Never came.

4) CHF - no presence at all throughout game. What about Fev pushing up - he was fired up and seemed to be in good shape. Needed some presence badly.

5) Setanta - looks skinny and unfit. Love the guy and his passion but felt it was an injustice to play him last night in that shape.

6) Gibbs - not a tagger. Should be used as a creative influence. Not one player in Richmond should've been tagged - don't think they have these type of players that have sort of penetration that we need to guard against. Missing the boat with this kid......

I know there were more and I for one am still confident we'll improve heaps. Go Blues

Add:

- Thorton should of been switched with a running player each time N Brown went up the ground. T-Bird did a great job inside 50 but up the ground N Brown late in the 2nd term really hurt us.

- We need a much more defensive set up. Our major weakness is our backline and we need to keep atleast 5 defenders in the back 3rd of the ground at anytime. Leaving Brown, Richo and Delidio one and two out inside 50 was a disgrace
