Carlton - born and bred
AFL Club
Carlton
Hate to say this but Ratten got outcoached by wallet last night. Had the game by scruff of the neck and let it go....

1) Ruck choice - Cloke and Setanta got killed and were our ineffectiveness in ruck contests largely contributed to our midfield getting beaten in 3Q/4Q.

2) Waite - good first half but they kept dragging him to goal square. Maybe move him forward or at least in a better rebound position.

3) Jamo - needed more support. Never came.

4) CHF - no presence at all throughout game. What about Fev pushing up - he was fired up and seemed to be in good shape. Needed some presence badly.

5) Setanta - looks skinny and unfit. Love the guy and his passion but felt it was an injustice to play him last night in that shape.

6) Gibbs - not a tagger. Should be used as a creative influence. Not one player in Richmond should've been tagged - don't think they have these type of players that have sort of penetration that we need to guard against. Missing the boat with this kid......

I know there were more and I for one am still confident we'll improve heaps. Go Blues

How was he outcoached in terms of the ruck contests? he had 4 ruckmen out injured. he didn't have much of a choice. I don't think Richmond's rucks were particularly damaging. fwiw i thought Setanta was better in the ruck than Cloke. Cloke seems like he's content with just getting the tap, he never taps it to advantage, even when he has his opponent beaten hands down.

Foley definitely should have been tagged. The kid's very good. Jackson's the #1 midfield tagger now - who was he minding?

Wasting Waite on Schulz was a very stupid idea. If he had played on Richo i think we could have won this match. Gibbs was also poorly used - Carrots needs to be our tagger as he is a ball magnet, not Gibbs.

If we matched up:

Thornton - Brown
Waite - Richo
Jamison - Schulz

different game all together. Perhaps even a 20 points victory....you never know.

Carlton were beaten by a better side who were missing 4 very talented players. Polo, Coughlan, Connors and Edwards. That's half a quality midfield. Next time we play you we will beat you by 10 goals. You guys have a bunch of no names. Fev is just a talented but undisciplined player. Simpson, Betts, Gibbs, Scotland, Walker, Bannister, Bower, Cloke, Grigg, Hadley etc are all just a bunch of average-good players at best. No team in the league has such a weak list. What gives Blues fans the right to ever bragg about their team? You have Fisher, Murphy, Judd, Stevens, Carazzo, Ohailpin, Waite, Houlihan, Kruezer, Hampson, Fevola to build your club around. But you will need a couple more clean outs to be considered a threat. You will want to have better midfielders than Stevens too. He's talented but a soft player and he would only be a 5th or 6th best midfielder in a premiership team. Your midfield was outplayed by an undermanned Tiger midfield and you were outclassed up forward and in defence. Blues fans are delusional. Melbourne have a better list than you and when they have a full fit team they'll beat you by 5 goals :thumbsu:

Waite was not the matchup for Richo. Richo would have just gone to the square and be left one-out and would have dominated. Plus we wouldn't have Waite running off half-back. Try again.

That's one good player, one once very good player and two no-names. Which isn't 1/10 of a midfield. I tipped the Tiges to win this time, but I'll be tipping the Blues next outing. By then we should be working reasonably well.

jeeeeeeesus christ. a richmond fan telling us our list is shit? ****ing hell! you'd think they've won the grand final the way they are carrying on!

wake up! this is the team you beat with a 95% full side:

- No Fisher (2nd best forward), Walker (2nd best defender), Hampson (1st ruck), Kruezer (#1 draft pick and probably 3rd best forward)
- Judd, Stevens, Setanta no where near match fit
- 3 DEBUTING players
- 7 of our players have not played 50 games or more
- Everyone adapting to a new game plan
- Players playing in the wrong positon (Waite should have gotten Richo without a doubt, and Gibbs was used as a tagget - this won't happen again)

if you didn't win against that you couldn't get a win to save you!

Polo, Coughlan, Connors and Edwards. That's half a quality midfield.

All of those players are shit and would not get a gig in any other club, save coughlan who might be able to playdecently after 2 years out of the game.

half of a under-18s quality midfield more like it.

You will want to have better midfielders than Stevens too. He's talented but a soft player and he would only be a 5th or 6th best midfielder in a premiership team.

Stevens fully fit would be yours and 4 or so other teams best midfielder. he'd get a gig in every team save geelong, the saints, or the power.

i hope to god North rape you and bring a reality check, of which i am sure they will. richmond = no good. carlton aint that great either, but at least fully fit we'd trounce you. looking forward to round 14 to pay out your rabble.

You guys have no idea of the talents of Connors and Edwards. They'll overtake players like Betts and Simpson in no time. Polo is better than you think and Cogs can get back to his best :)

Foley is already better than Stevens. Stevens will never be a complete player. Anyone non Blue fan wwatching last night would see Foley is a more exciting player. Cogs was more valuable than Stevens and will be again. Polo will overtake Stevens soon. This is all because Stevens ins a reciever

In 2006 we beat the Roos by 7 goals at the G with Thompson playing. I feel confident we'll do it again

Cogs has to get on the park first, and I didn't see anything "exciting" about Foley last night. He may become a great player, but he isn't exciting

Re: Outcoached..........You betcha.

Just a question but what is our game plan?

Our mids continually chase the ball into our forward 50 but once its cleared its straight down the other end with very little hassle and our mids standing around wondering what happened.
They dont build a wall to stop the ball coming out and they dont work hard enough on applying pressure.
Forward line resembles pagans plan KICK THE BLOODY THING LONG TO FEV AT ALL COSTS. If Fev is double and triple teamed where the **** are our loose forwards? I'll tell ya where leading into the bloody boundary or getting in Fevs way when they should be trying to get into space on their own in a position to kick a goal.........not on the boundary 50 out.
( forward line pressure is shocking....apart from Betts)
Backline is a mystery.........Setanta played some bloody good footy down back and thats where he should go.......why dont our ruckman drop back and fill holes in defense? Waite must go forward forget this backline shit his best is forward.......Setanta,Jamison,Bower,Thornton, with the rest off half back.
Forward set up would be dangerous with Fev,Waite,Fish,Hoops etc and could kick a decent score.

Just my opinion.

I'll agree with you about King

Exciting or annoying? Something about Richmond that makes me think they're all gonna fall to the ground with epileptic fits. King looks so desperate when he runs, and Pettifer looks like a major junky during set shots. Not taking shots, just pointing out their odd figity body language when they play.

The Blues were beaten because they have no quality defenders (other than Waite who you can't play both at CHB and CHF at the same time), no quality rucks (due to injury, but if you are expecting Kreuzer to be the answer all year I have some Nigerian bank account details to share with you), and only one key forward... almost exactly like the Richmond side of 2007. They also paid a huge price for playing half fit players - Judd and Stevens are quality midfielders but had no preparation to run for 4 quarters. No surprise at all that the Tigers ran over the top in the 2nd half. The rest of the midfield are good 2nd tier midfielders who can't carry the load on their own.

If you don't have the cattle, the greatest coach in history couldn't manufacture a win. The Blues will have their moments but you can't build key defenders from 18 year old stick figures overnight.

I apologise to all the Blues supporters I have bagged for "tanking" last year (even though the best tanking effort of the season was the Tigers in round 22 against the Saints) - because I now realise the Blues never gave it away - they really are that bad.

I know it is very early to judge Ratten, and it is very easy to over exaggerate after last night game. But Carlton seemed to select Ratten without any kind of process or review like clubs such as Melbourne and Essendon. I know that Ratten is a favourite son but it is just worrying that Carlton has selected him becasue he lost 6 games last year to get us pick 1. Hopefully i will be wrong and Ratten will be a decade coach and premiership coach

Yeah its way too early to judge Ratts.......The only negative thing i have of Ratts (and no im not turning on him) is the way we played last night as in pressure, hunger, grit, mongrel i would of thought after 5 months they would of had the players well and trully up for the challenge last night:confused:....BUT its only round 1 and im sure we will see a totally different outfit next weekend.:thumbsu:

Thats a good thing right?
