I saw them after Quality Control. They haven't made ANYTHING good since imo, and the hippy/surfy crowd has latched onto them (never a good sign, those skegs have ****in horrible taste in music).

Kweli and Mos got worse (still have respect for them though). Kweli sold out, I think Mos just got bored.
BEP blatantly sold out Never a big fan in the first place.
Outkast hit the mainstream Yup.
J5 have been downright awful since QC c.f. old stuff, yeah.
The Roots are still the best live band in the world (have been for about 8 years now imo), but as far as their releases go, they've been treading water I loved tTP, and actually feel like that's their best album, whereas many didn't like it. The last one was middling. But yeah, definitely one of the best live bands in the world.
Lauryn Hill went insane The MTV unplugged stuff is good but.
Jedi Mind Tricks sound the same as they did on debut How the hell did they make this list?

Honestly, Dead Prez, Cormega and Nas have all been good - but a lot of the stuff I used to REALLY enjoy has gotten substantially worse. I remember when I heard Kanye West - Through The Wire, about a year before he even released his first album, and I was like "whoa, this guy could change Hiphop" - what a massive let down.

I know everyone was sick of the Gangsta shit that was popular 5 years ago, like Eminem, 50 cent, Dr Dre etc. but right now, the so-called 'old school' stuff is now in the mainstream.

The only guy I can think of who is still really awesome, that I used to love, is Pharoahe Monche - but even he is trying to hit the crossover market.

*pours out a lil' liquor* lol
Thoughts in bold.

I do think it's a bit unfair to expect an artist/group to stay consistently good for more than 10 years, very few have done it, particularly in hip-hop. It's just a bit disappointing so many went to shit at the same time.

Oh, I love The Tipping Point. Probably my favourite Roots album, even though its considered 'mainstream'.

JMT made the list because I guess I was just thinking of the groups I really liked back in the early 00's.

And yeah, its weird how it all happened at once - I think it was because Kanye really blew up, and all of a sudden, all the 'old school' acts figured they could do the same thing.

Interesting that within an hour of bumpng the thread, we've had like 5 of the original posters come back and post again though - that NEVER happens.

Aquemini is almost as good too.

As for selling out, I'm not sure. It seems as though a big chunk of the really good, consistent hip-hop artists have released some unfathomably shit albums in the last few years; Mos Def and Kweli, J5 and even The Roots' latest effort was incredibly average.

It seems as if it's almost an industry trend.
Kweli = God

Which bad album are you talking about here?
