can't see it ending well. 19 is average
All about the player picked, not the actual number. If it's 19, so be it.

I trust Conole to keep his really solid streak going :thumbsu:

Melbourne picked 4 players in the first round before Nat Fyfe went at 20:

1. Tom Scully
2. Jack Trengrove
11. Jordan Gysberts
18. Luke Tapscott

Last night would've been the biggest kick in the nuts for them.

I feel like if rocky does go well end up trading the compensation.

I'd tbh be happy with 19 for Cameron. But that's effectively rocky for Cameron which I don't feel right with.

I wish there was another bracket, mid first round pick I would be very happy with for Rock.

I just worry even though last year was one of our better years for injuries if we trade rocky our midfield just looks that much more thin. Don't wanna put too much into guys like Berry and witho and co. So early

I feel like the club wouldn't be letting Rocky go unless we already had a commitment from another player to fill the void like Miles etc.
That's such a downgrade on Rocky though. And Frost last year was meant to be a void filler look how that went. I really hope the club stays clear of those guys who wouldn't get a game anywhere else and are pretty clearly just there as a bandaid solution.

If rocky goes I'd rather one of the kids step up. An injury prone beams out with rocky gone leaves us with one A grade midfielder. And although our young guys have talent they're really only C+ players right now. Can't expect them to come in and replace such movers for us in the middle. Rocky Zorko and Beams also kicked a lot of goals for us, it's not just midfield power that could be effected.

Robinson and Bundy can play through the middle.

Agree it's a downgrade but I think Miles would be a really good fit for us if Rocky was to leave. We have a decent midfield on paper but for whatever reason it doesn't work. We need to switch it up, if we lost Rocky and we added Miles and Cameron played some midfield minutes we would be ok.

Bundy once again injury prone let's see if he can get on the park for a season and Robbo is still no A grader
Bundy's injury worries me. Very difficult to get right and back to full strength. Wouldn't surprise me (but I hope it doesn't happen) if he is out of the game fairly rapidly.

So we can have only A graders or teenagers in our midfield?

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of options.
Come on mate let's not play these games. That's far from what I'm saying - just passing comment on list balance and how I think our midfield should look going forward. It can be very damaging throwing guys who aren't ready into the engine room early on. And I don't think bandaid solutions ever work, unless it's a sam Mitchell type band aid who is not only a bandaid but a teacher and grower of the young brigaid.

Whys everything gotta be something more with you, relax man.

Miles is a hack. A slight upgrade on Jansen.

Rocky is a former captain, AA midfielder and one of the best clearance players in the AFL.

Miles wouldn't be a bandaid solution. He could well be around for longer than Beams. Plus you need at least 6 who can run through the middle and on top of that your outside mids.

We'd have Beams, Zorko, Robinson, Berry, Bundy, Matho and not a lot more.

Jansen struggled to touch the ball at senior level and Miles averages over 22 touches a game over his career. Better than a slight upgrade. Yeah he's a downgrade on Rocky but if Rocky leaves I would love it if we could get Miles, certainly better than losing Rocky and not getting anyone in.

Miles would be a DFA wouldn't he? It's not like we are trading out pick 21 for Bell here.

If Rockliff goes c’est la vie. I think his best football is behind him and I have no doubt the club will continue to improve without him. Like Redden, Rockliff’s obvious talents as a footballer never translated to dominance in the midfield. When we had both players on our list we still got smashed in the centre clearances most weeks. I would take pick 19 and turn it straight into a mature midfielder looking for a new home. We might also have a close look at Port Melbourne’s VFL
Premiership list and see what that has to offer.

This isn't true at all though. We didn't get smashed in the clearances early in the season because a fit Rockliff was dominant in the contest. When we started to put it together later on, centre clearances were our biggest problem.

Mature mids out of the vfl are the last thing we need tbh. Jake Barrett is the sort of mid who dominates at state league level, he can't play there in the afl.
