Not sure if this is possible, but could we get a poll to see who would be happy with pick 19 for Rocky? Would be interesting to see how many of us are for or against. Personally, I'd rather keep Rocky than receive pick 19
If you've got a spare $122mill you could mail out a postal survey to everyone ;)

Personally I think I'd be fine either way, providing we turn 18 or 19 into a player or 2 & points for ballenden

Would only accept Rocky leaving for pick 19 if that pick is used to snare Kennedy who I think we may have to overpay to entice here. Anything else and it's a fail IMO.
Can't wait for "David Armitage for pick 19", or even better "Josh Smith, Adam Oxley, Lachlan Keefe and Josh Thomas for Schache and pick 19".

It's becoming an annual trend. Seems every proposed trade from the media we are getting the short end of the stick. What ever sells I suppose...

This isn't true at all though. We didn't get smashed in the clearances early in the season because a fit Rockliff was dominant in the contest. When we started to put it together later on, centre clearances were our biggest problem.

Mature mids out of the vfl are the last thing we need tbh. Jake Barrett is the sort of mid who dominates at state league level, he can't play there in the afl.
I was referring to Rockliff's contribution to our midfield over his career and the fact that despite the presence of Rockliff, Redden and whoever else had a run through there, our midfield has been a significant weakness for season after season after season. I am happy to go back and look at our centre clearances early in the season, but because you follow Rockliff and you are an intelligent contributor who has watched him closely, I'll accept we may not have been smashed in Centre Clearances before his shoulder injury restricted him. I just can't remember us doing so well, particularly after we strung a fair few losses together after our opening win.

My point is that at 27 I still feel that his best football is behind him, unless he plays as a permanent forward. If Rockliff gets a lucrative contract at another club, then good luck to him. I think we can cover him in the side and still would not be adverse to selecting an established midfielder in the draft, just like any side that drafts Rockliff would be doing.

I miss the days when everyone talked about Sam Power coming to us so he could play with his brother every year.
Or was that Luke going to the Dogs to play with his brother Sam?

To tell the truth, I thought it was a bit of both, depending on which way the media wind was blowing at the time.

In any case, we had "Corey" McGrath (cleverly disguised as his brother Ash) playing for us for years without anyone important actually noticing.

Those were the days;)

Last night would've been the biggest kick in the nuts for them.
Gotta feel for Trengrove taken at pick 2 ahead of Dusty...was looking like a gun and was youngest captain, then got injured which has ruined his career.

Just got delisted i believe...meanwhile he sees Dusty rise to become one of, if not the richest players in the game, win a brownlow and possibly a premiership...what a year for Dusty.

Loved rocky as a forward and Dangerfield was also potent in that positon.

Would happily have rocky there permanently to provide leadership and nous to the young ones and punish the opposition at every possible opportunity.

What people aren't thinking about here is the cultural expectations and understandings that all our younger players are forming as this situation drags on. Why worry about being loyal to the club as it is obvious that they sure as sh#t won't be loyal to us even after 10 years service!
In a Hawthorn system the player with longevity and loyalty is rewarded. HENCE strong culture! WE have it all WRONG here! This will be the start of another disaster. I lived through it at Fitzroy with trading PERT and Blakey and then the player group fractured. Our small signs of stability will be eroded with this and we will lose young players- most likely starting with With and Lugga next year. How good will we look then???

We must stop this cycle!

Not overly fussed to be honest.

Personally I'd wouldn't be slitting my wrists if we got pick 19. Obviously we'd drive him to the airport for pick 2 but that's a pipe dream.

A 4 year contract at least 1 year too long for Rockliff. Hold our ground.

And at the end of the day we still have the option to force a trade as well. Start the bidding war.

The Hawks would be the first to admit that they play their players unders in order to achieve sustained success in the game.

Except that as soon as he (or any player seeking a trade) nominates a club there's no longer a bidding war. The player gets where he wants everytime.
Although it appears as though that nomination will come for the highest bidder, otherwise he wouldn't even be looking at Carlton.

Even with Rocky and Beams hampered in the second half of the season; we actually ranked 3rd in the AFL for centre clearances and 8th in the AFL for clearances around the ground.

For mine - a brilliant effort from where we've been ranked in previous seasons :thumbsu:

It would be interesting to compare our overall clearance numbers pre and post Rocky's shoulder injury to see how the team performed as a whole whilst Rocky was killing it and when the team had to (shoulder) the load so to speak. Whether the team performed better or worse without him contributing as much.

Edit : also to compare the contested ball numbers as well pre and post injury. I think this is where the team needs to improve most.

Yet at crucial times we got smashed and teams got a run on against us. Our spread defensively from clearances is almost non existent, I would like to see the scores against stat from clearances because that will give a better indication of where we are at.
