Can anyone on our list fill the role of a quality outside midfielder?

I think Connors maybe can if he gets his tank up. He has the tricks and can avoid the tackles etc. He also doesn't seem to get sucked in to the bottom of the packs, he likes receiving.
Edwards stepped up this year and I feel next year he can improve again as the team improves around him. Maybe he can become the quick outside mid we need.

I'm fairly sure we will try and draft one, however is there one potentially already on our list? Or is there a player the tigers will consider trading for to fill this role?

I think Gaff is the player we are hoping to get with Pick 6. Long kicking midfielder. We hardly have any left footers so if we get Gaff and Knights to the club, that would solve 2 problem areas. All we'd need next would be a ruckman

Is said Lids at times ie not all the time.

Lids is a weapon, you use him to maximum effect based on matchups and opposition whether it be backline, forward line or midfield particularly in the future. happy for him to learn the backline craft ATM.

O reilly I think can be an outside midfielder/winger. I give this guy props , have a lot of time for him from what I have seen

I will through another out of left field, Rance. Bag me if you will but I think this guy may be effective

I want talk about draft picks as I will avoid trolls

Rance is an important player of the future. Can't believe anyone has him on the trade table

I agree with this. Lids can be used in numerous positions to exploit the opposition.

Also on Rance, he's so athletic that there is surely a running position from him. However there are numerous question marks on his decision making that surely the pressure of the pack would really amplify that.

I know he has already gone in there but Mitch Morton looks like he is going to provide a long term boost to our midfield. Good disposal, strong with the ball and manages to get his disposal away, great overhead and can kick goals. Great find.

In terms of other outside mids Lids is the obvious one but think that ultimately when we do get stronger he will be played in the Brendon Goddard role as others have pointed out.

In terms of draft I'd really like Gaff and Prestia with our first two picks to balance out our midfield.

Edwards and Collins.

Both excellent by foot, especially delivering to the forwardline.

+ Morton. I throw one out there, I like to think Grimesy can be developed as a midfielder over the next 2-3 years. Good decision maker and skill execution (yes I know he mucked one up on Sun but), no reason to label him a backman and only a backman.

Troy Taylor could be a gun wingman. Has oodles of time and looks to be a really good kick and is good overhead. A lot to like about this kid.

This was all I could think about on Sunday. The kid moves like silk, he makes every other player on the ground look like they're standing still and it's electrifying! The way he dodged traffic had me thinking he'd be, with a bigger tank and much better work rate, he can be a gun high HFF/Winger for us.

How about his tackling... looks to relish taclking and chasing. Love his sidestep and composure. If we can hold onto this kid and he grows to love playing AFL footy for the RFC he could be something special. Emma Quayle had him as the 15th most talented kid prior to the draft - looks like she wasn't far off.

Not related to the OP but I want to bring it up anyway.

Rance's last 2 games. I dont know if its just me but he seems a lot more composed and assure of himself. Not the deer in the headlights look which we have gotten used to over the past 2 years.

Its true we jump on our younger players very quickly and prior to the last few weeks I thought he would have be delisted within the next 2 years, but the last 2 games have made me have a bit of a rethink.

Like the idea of him as a running wingman. Or defensive forward. Just needs to work on keeping his feet in the contest.

No such thing as an outside mid under DH. When it's your time to go.... you go.

Outside mid has nothing to do with not putting your head over the ball.

It's a running role, like the old traditional winger, where instead of the Martin, Cotchin, Tuck types who are in and under dishing out the handballs its the guys who are receiving the handballs and your run and carry type players. The type of role that Edwards has played for us at times. Usually very quick, skillful, though not exactly the best build for in an under work. Think Stephen Hill for an example of a quality outside midfielder. The type of player we need.

Ofcourse when its their turn to go, they go, just like any position.

IMO our first draft pick should be a faster/outside player. Apparantly Atley fits this mould, so I think we should be considering him. Although admittedly I haven't done my research on this draft yet.

Possibly, but stranger things have happened. If there's one thing I have learnt about the draft is that a lot can change from September to November, and then a lot can change again on draft day.

There is even the chance that trade week influences the draft if there is a lot of movement. And with GC coming in, I think clubs will be pretty active this trade week.

Either way we'l get a quality kid at 6, I'd be hoping we take a mid.
Also I'd be looking for us to get another pick in the top 30, or upgrade our second pick. How we do that I don't know.

All players should be quick and skillful and play a running role.
