Well it's not, SACA don't set the dates for the Shield season.

The issue has come about because both seasons have crossed over more and more over the last decade.
It’s up to the SACA to communicate with CA though

Im pretty sure they held NRL games and a Liverpool friendly during footy season.

The former would damage the field more than a cricket game.

I would have thought CA controls the cricket scheduling?

No shield cricket in January / February because of the Big Bash crap.

They would have known the potential issue would arise....
Yea but the SACA control the cricket portion it’s up to them to sort out with CA the dates.

Ok fair enough.

I know there have been concerts at Marvel during the footy season and there was a lot of uproar due to how the surface was left.

Looking into it - in 2017 they had all offseason to prepare for the Adele concert which was on March 13th and then get Adelaide Oval ready for round 1 on March 26.

It's a crazy schedule to have the Power play on the 22nd of March. 4 days of cricket from the 24-27th. Then have 3 days to get it back to standard for the Crows game on March 30th.

All for a sporting event that nobody will watch, nobody will attend and is for a sub standard league.

For anyone who is super concerned.

The Race of Champions was held in Sydney over the weekend. They laid a nearly kilometre road in the stadium which you'd think would have destroyed the place.

They'll play NRL this week.

Of course you don't,

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for the Crows on the following weekend.

Incredible that a cricket final has people's knickers in a twist
Big difference between covering the oval and digging it up and having joins as such.
I’d have far less concerns with an concert.

If the Crows thought it would be dangerous they wouldn't play on it
I would like to think that this would be the case. But given that Gov appears to be supporting the cricket I bet there would be backroom pressure on the Crows to find a way to play given the Crows have their hand out for financial help. Gov would try to leverage that.

Not if it's hit with a bunch of compo

OK, it sounds like the surface won't be damaged.

Go your hardest you cricket scallywags if it doesn't affect our game on following weekend.
It absolutely will change the surface though. It will be harder and has potential to cause injuries.
If there is any movement of the soil around the edges it's going to be even worse.

It won't be harder..... it's not like they're leaving the pitch in after FFS
