I can't help thinking that Fages and his team lack match day awareness. I would if senior coach be expecting each of the specialist coaches to confer about match ups every 10 minutes or so and then give me any advice they think useful. This doesn't happen and cannot happen as they don't sit together.

One of Himmelberg's goal was when Cameron was off, we had an extra in defence, Lester dropped off going in short (he won a possession doing this a minute or two before0 but Gardiner was also zoning. He should have been standing on Himmelberg's toes. Defensive coach shoud have made sure this happened.

I assume that Lester played on Himmelberg because the back six have been quite settled and if Adams went down back Lester loses his value.

Lester to Charlie Dixon? Wouldn't be surprised if it happened during the game.

How are you rating him now?
Much improved. This is what has changed since then:

1. Team selection is more settled.
2. We have stopped playing the ugly and easy to counter chip out of defence and roost down the line game. This game plan cost us the Essendon, Footscray, Fremantle and Carlton games and nearly cost us the Adelaide and Port Adelaide games. The fact that it has disappeared has to be a direct coaching instruction and Fagan gets a massive ‘mark up’ for that.
3. Our midfield set up is brilliant - hats off to Fagan, Ben Hudson and Dale Tapping.
4. We have demonstrated consistency again and are winning games of football that we should win.

I would now rate Fagan as a clear “A.”

To get an A+ he needs to get reward for the patience he has had with Cam Rayner and Daniel McStay.

Here’s a bit more from that game. We had a terrible start to the season, but then flew home to make the Final 5. Went straight out of the finals sadly. We should have won the flag in 1983, but 1984 was a bigger disappointment given the players we had. The only consolation was Bernie Quinlan kicking his ton.

Here's the problem I have with Fagan's performance so far this year in terms of Team Selection.

He has gone "all in" on too many under performing players - McStay, Cameron, Rayner and Witherden are all getting games despite some very 'variable' form. One has to wonder what it would take for one of these players to be dropped. The fact that three of these players are forwards at a time when Ben Keays is in great form as a forward in the "Ressies" is not a good look for Fagan.

On the other hand, he seems to 'pull the trigger' too quickly on other players. Cutler is the one people seem to be upset about and I have Bastinac in that category. Based on how much slack he has cut his "pets" Cutler was stiff and so was Bastinac. As for dropping Walker last week, that was one of the dumbest things Fagan has ever done. A very silly decision and I don't care how many apologists bleat about team balance etc etc. You don't drop players who are in career best form. When he dropped Walker he was 7th in the League for marks and loads of these were contested intercept marks in defence. The fact that Andrews got murdered after half time against Footscray just made Fagan look worse.

The other problem I see with Fagan is that he returned to the "poison well" selecting Christensen, Robertson and Taylor. The fact that they were quickly dropped indicated to me that he knew he got those calls wrong. Some might add Lester to this list, but I wont.

On the upside, Fagan got it right with Answerth and I think the faith he is showing in Mathieson will be rewarded. It remains to be seen how Hinge goes, but his inclusion is welcome because it is aimed at the future.

If I was awarding a grade, I would have Fagan sitting on a D+
At the moment A+++++

I always say running on time (I am a dentist), working hard, and working full time is a young person's disease. I want to know is anyone in the Over 50's Clique is doing it harder or easier than me.
Ten hours a week and six to twelve weeks holiday a year is my lot.
