What are the shows which 'everyone' seems to watch but you don't understand why?

Resisting the chance to stick the boots into one of the 237 reality shows currently screening, for me, it would have to be Friends.

I never understood its seemingly universal popularity amongst critics and viewers. Sure, the cast are good looking enough to be on the cover of women's magazines, but I think it really isn't that funny.

Friends for me too.

I also used to be a huge 24 fan, but this latest series is lame.... course I dont know if 'everyone' still watches it.

Friends used to be a lot funnier, particularly in the first half of its duration (say, first five/six years or so). These days, it's more...storyline/soapie/'drama' orientated (I can't think of the damn word). I love Friends, it's been one of my favourite shows for years, and I'll be very sad to see it go. :(

For me: Queer Eye, and Kath & Kim spring to mind. Ridiculous, pointless television. (Hey, as it most stuff on free-to-air.)

I peered over the top ten ratings getters for the last week, and deadset, I can't say I've watched any of them... ever. Stuff like CSI, Law and Order Criminal Intent, Blue Heelers (previously)... haven't ever considered it. Most people I know don't watch that stuff, I'm intrigued how they rate so well.

I find it amazing that Friends still rates, I turned off shortly after Monica and Chandler got married, and so it seems did most of my friends.

I have to agree. My mother and sister watch it every single week, I just don't see the attraction though.

As for McLeod's Daughters, I've never watched it, mostly because it just doesn't interest me. There's no character I like, and none of the storylines have really compelled me to tune in.

And 99% of the reality TV shows fall into this category for me also.

All the crime shows, lifestyle shows, friends and rove. I feel sorry for the "comedians" on there. Almost get the feeling the audience has a pity laugh now and then.

Apart from the Panel (which is rearly seen) and the old D Gen and Late Show, any show thats advertised as "International Release" on Australian TV means thats its some dud Australian made show that no other country will show. The major turn off point is if its Australian made, a guarantee that its not worth the tape its recorded on.

McLeod's Daughters easily. Also, any of those CSI, Law and Order type shows. There are about a million of them and from the ads they all seem the same. How can they all be so popular?!?

Also, never understood the fascination with Dawson's Creek either. Again, I never saw the show by by god it looked like a load of crap from the ads.

Yep, that list for me too.

Friends was awesome until about season 7, then dropped off completely. Don't watch any of the new eps, but sometimes watch the old eps on Arena and they are classic.

As for 24, I still think it's pretty good. This season was slow to start but really picks up.

And Dawson's Creek was a top show in its first season but slowly turned ****house like all other teen dramas.

I never got into Frasier either, but I love Seinfeld. It's one of my all-time favourite TV shows.

Kath & Kim - It doesn't appeal to me at all.
A lot of the reality/lifestyle shows.
There's numerous others, but I don't really watch a lot of free-to-air TV anymore. Having Austar, FTA offers very little.
