They banned Tobacco adds and did it swiftly. Time for our leaders to pull their finger out here and do the same with sports betting ads.

I know we've all touched on this topic, but we need to continually revisit it, its getting worse and more and more dangerous. We are living in a time where everyone is having their mental health tested, spending more time home and in front of the tele. As evident by the ratings for the footy this weekend.

We've been overwhelmed by sports betting ads during the coverage - whether it's Nathan Brown and Dale Thomas hosting segments during the broadcast, commercials or in between games. Billboards and screen graphics stating the odds every few moments, this has become deplorable. The fact this isn't regulated by our pathetic politicians has made me lose faith that we are even a democracy anymore. It's a puppet face being led by the Murdoch's.

Once that was done with, we've got Shaq, Mark Walberg, making ridiculous commercials, snippets and sound bites butting sports betting at the forefront of our minds. Blurring the lines between sports and betting, normalising betting for children who are being brainwashed.

Now, even footy podcasts I listen too, Footyology an AFL Fantasy 'The Traders', have been sponsored by these absolute germs of society. 😂😂

Like its a ******* joke. Let's just teach sports betting in schools 🤦‍♂️

How long is a piece of string? Because these pathetic, vile, evil corporates are asking the question, and changing their own answer.

I don't think it will ever happen, but I agree.

It would be a massive hit to the industry - but like the recovery from sport's reliance on tobacco advertising, footy could survive and thrive without it.

People will argue "but freedom!" - the thing is, everyone will still have the freedom to gamble, but we've gotten to a point where gambling is treated/portrayed as a fundamental pillar of the sport itself.

Didn't Gillard have a go at banning a lot of it and was moderately successful.? How did it get turned around?

It's become ridiculously saturated now and i don't like how glossy and engrained it's become in the telecasts, mainly for the fact children are a huge audience and see it as just part of the game etc... App culture has also seemingly let it grow huge legs too.

I definitely find them excessive especially on KAYO in terms of frequency shown but I don't see the need for them to be banned altogether.

Why do we need to go nanny state in order for people to be responsible for their own decisions.

“After the game – a pretty bad concussion, didn’t have much recollection of it, pretty scary experience – I’ve got the old: ‘You f****** piece of s*** you completely f***** my multi because you didn’t kick a goal, honestly die break your neck’ – which is not great,” Allen told the Coast to Coast podcast.

Yep. Having Nathan Brown pop up at half time with the betting recommendations followed with a 'blah blah bet responsibly' disclaimer isn't exactly a responsible thing given how family friend watching the football is supposed to be.

How else am I suppose to watch the Brownlow this year without Swanny or Brownie taking up more of the broadcast than the event itself?

Sportsbet just announced their new Bet With Mates tool too so me and the lads can all go down on the last leg of that multi together, a real bonding experience. There's simply no other way to watch the footy.

because it is warping the minds of children, normalising gambling to them at an age where they don't have the reasoning skills to counter what they are being force fed.

Random betting is one of humankind's most popular (and usually most pointless) habits. It's all a big scam to take advantage of our human inability to calculate probability. Indoctrination of our kids is happening every day in schools as anything enjoyed by Australians is eradicated, sporting betting? Might as well ban alcohol while we're at it? Casinos? Horse Racing? Perhaps lockdown is the answer governments wanted in the first place? The product Nathan Brown sells is hope, even if it's false hope.

I would ban both horse racing and greyhound racing if I was in charge as both are very cruel industries to the horses and dogs.

Totally agree.

It is disgusting that on line betting and especially betting apps you can 'have so much fun with your mates with' is being shoved down our throats at every turn.

All during time slots where young impressionable kids are watching and getting brain washed.

It is dead set WRONG!

Because when I took my then seven year old daughter to the football and after a few weeks was quoting odds at me, I knew something was wrong.

We don't expose our children to pornography or tobacco or poker machines.

This is no different.

Does that compute?
