Overdue - time for federal government to ban sports betting ads

Curious to know if BigFooty has been approached to advertise betting agencies and now they've responded to it.

I imagine this demographic on BF is who they look for
Wasn't the tipping comp on here changed to an odds based scoring system for a short period years ago due to some proposed partnership with a betting company to provide prizes?

So you would be ok with childrens shows having swearing, pr0n and alcohol use, as well as ads for strip clubs?

Kids are already playing video games with half that stuff.

They are shooting people dead by the thousands.

This takes me back to the days past when we had people wanting certain music and bands banned because some kid might take it serious and some "adult" didn't like it.

They banned Tobacco adds and did it swiftly. Time for our leaders to pull their finger out here and do the same with sports betting ads.

I know we've all touched on this topic, but we need to continually revisit it, its getting worse and more and more dangerous. We are living in a time where everyone is having their mental health tested, spending more time home and in front of the tele. As evident by the ratings for the footy this weekend.

We've been overwhelmed by sports betting ads during the coverage - whether it's Nathan Brown and Dale Thomas hosting segments during the broadcast, commercials or in between games. Billboards and screen graphics stating the odds every few moments, this has become deplorable. The fact this isn't regulated by our pathetic politicians has made me lose faith that we are even a democracy anymore. It's a puppet face being led by the Murdoch's.

Once that was done with, we've got Shaq, Mark Walberg, making ridiculous commercials, snippets and sound bites butting sports betting at the forefront of our minds. Blurring the lines between sports and betting, normalising betting for children who are being brainwashed.

Now, even footy podcasts I listen too, Footyology an AFL Fantasy 'The Traders', have been sponsored by these absolute germs of society. 😂😂

Like its a ******* joke. Let's just teach sports betting in schools 🤦‍♂️

How long is a piece of string? Because these pathetic, vile, evil corporates are asking the question, and changing their own answer.
Well this is probably the best post I have ever read on bigfooty. Totally agree with all of it. Come on you bureaucratic jelly fish, stamp this s**t out.

Dont bet, but stopping others is another thing. Betting on footy was around for a long time before it was corporatised.
So was tobacco.
Didn't stop us banning advertising.
Also Aussie rules HS survived a long time before betting revenue.
It doesn't need it.
Also nobody wants to ban betting.
Just advertising.
Two different things.

Somehow this thread has been changed from banning advertising to banning betting.
Not the same.

so thats a yes, you see no problem with pr0n and alcohol in a childrens show such as play school.

Those are parents allowing kids to play M and MA video games.

Sports are rated G. G rates games dont have violence. So your argument doesnt quite hold up. I doubt too many care if gambling ads are run during M amd MA shows.

I doubt kids give a stuff about gambling ads either.

Exactly. There is a concerted effort to market to kids, get them invested at an early age so they will become consumers for life. Just ask Ronald McDonald.
Well it's not every day that you meet a bloke who lost his family and house due to an addiction initiated by a once a season Under 5-9's (short people) Junior Burger Happy Meal prize back in childhood but hey I will take your word for it, I'm sure they are out there somewhere.

Kids talk about the odds for teams winning. Thats how they get started.

Gateway ads !

I've never seen a single kid say anything about a gambling ad when I've been sat in front of a tv with kids and gambling ads.

Most normally have their head down in their phone or go stuff their faces when the ads appear.
