What's significantly better than top quality French cuisine?

Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Basque, Chinese are all better or at least equal to French cuisine.

And on the whole Mexican food thing - I understand why Mexican restaurants get a bad rap (not many good ones around at all) but a good mate's mum is Mexican and her home cooking (traditional/authentic mexican) is just about THE best food you'll ever have. It is that good.
