It sucks and I fully understand people wanting that miracle run into finals

But its now time to be realistic, what can we get out of this season to make us better set up for 2026

We need to look at the 30 year old plus players and think are they are going to with us next year (Rampe, Hamling, Fox, Adams, Cunningham, Lloyd and Grundy)

Yep time to plan for next year and get a few games into youngsters.

Put a few of the older blokes on ice and put the cue in the rack.

Rampe, Hamling, Fox, Cunningham, Lloyd and Grundy have another year, but need to see what others can bring

He smashed Serong 3 weeks ago, he smashed Vlastuin 5 weeks ago.

He kept Wanganeen Milera to his worst game of the season 2 weeks ago.

First half tonight, it was a good battle, Callaghan was elite in the second half, AND GWS started playing for him by blocking and creating space.

Buller had it 10 times with 5 clangers and won 7 hitouts and your happy but Francis had it 10 and only 2 clangers- yes he missed the 2 goals but i'm not claiming he was BOG.

Just saying he did ok in a shit forward line and calling him a VFL dud is just nonsense imo when you rate otherwise who were equal or worse as in our bests ....

Yeh hard to think any team would have stopped that flow once they got going in the 3rd. Yes they were kicking them from everywhere and getting every little bounce go their way - but in those situations, you do make your own luck to some degree.

They've done very well to constantly recycle their early draft bounties to maintain an exceptionally deep and talented list, despite the constant picking off of good players year after year.

In fairness our game plan was bang on for the 1st half, we were excellent.

Completely Outcoached in 2nd half and an inability to change. We need a way to minimise the oppos run on. Still a lingering issue from horse.

We will be back better than ever next year.

Kbroome we are now good to go with giving youth a chance.

We don't have the leadership in the current group that says 'No more' when a run on happens, and almost wills a way to stop the bleeding. Ala Kirk/Bolton and co in 2005 and Kennedy/Hanners/Jack etc in 2012. There was always someone that rallied the troops and more often than not found a way to take the sting out for a couple of minutes, get the game back a little on our terms, and dig our way out of a hole.

When we get stuck in a hole now, we just keep digging it seems.

Grundy and Cunners are fine but the others have struggled with injuries or general form.

Still won a fair few contests, we don’t need to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet, think we need to get a few of the youngsters in the team now. See what they can do.

Lloyd can still provide valuable depth next year, can play multiple roles but agree his time is coming to an end.

In an attempt to say something positive I have been pleasantly surprised by Buller. He seems to respond well to pressure and thinks quickly. Links up well with the mids. I think McLean might find himself in the 2s next year as Buller seems to be a better option when McDonald and Amartey are back in the side. He has certainly surpassed my expectations and seems to have risen to the challenge at the higher level.

We have far too many unathletic players in the team to cope when teams move the ball - Francis, Buller, Sheldrick, Jordan, Rowbottom, Mills etc.
We also had no-one who could match the Giants defenders in the 2nd half.

Cunningham hasn’t put a foot wrong since coming back. Best of the returning players and shouldn’t be saying that. Lloyd pretty much surplus to requirements if Cunningham stays injury free.
Lloyd is a momentum killer.

He tries hard, is a senior player who still deserves a spot but we go very stagnant with his hands on the footy. He is one we need to make a hard decision on IMO

Agree it’s very concerning.

3rd quarter from Giants was like a rinse repeat from our worst efforts in GF’s, 2nd quarter v Lions and same v Cats.

We lack that competitive beast who will get us back on track. A JPK or Kirk or Kel back in the day.

Or some smarts ala Pendlebury or Sidebottom who do the same thing but differently.

Gulden can do it and has in the past but he does need a few mates and is under done which was clear tonight with the greater intensity. Rowy has gone backwards this year but also has been one in the past. Just need more others.

Giants were hot but we need to know how ro minimise their impact going forward

Mills was solid imo tonight , he and the backline before Hamling went off were great.

There was no real leadership in the second half but Mills gave me some signs/hope

He has shown a bit forward, think deep defence is a worry and thought they did stamp his papers.


He certainly reverted to his bad habits under pressure , but I dunno , i think he should stay and be a forward/wing /depth

There is no point offering Lloyd a new contract imo.

He isn't going to improve back to his old self and his best this year has been in the 18-22nd range on the list. Therefore it is only down from here where he could in 2026 just be a list clogger. I'd much rather have a rookie selection half back flanker than Lloyd there tbh

What value? Kicking bombs to contests and waiting till tomorrow to kick the thing oh and giving the opposition time to flood back. Great value..he’s fine up forward but I don’t want him near the wing or worse defence again
