From the Herald-Sun....

THE gloss of Geelong's crushing defeat of rival premiership contender the North Ballarat Roosters at the Northern Oval yesterday was diminished by a serious knee injury to AFL-list defender Stephen Owen.

The 20-year-old 2005 draft choice from the North Ballarat Rebels, who is yet to make his Australian Football League debut, twisted his left knee midway through the final quarter.

Geelong VFL coach Leigh Tudor said last night Owen appeared to have damaged his ACL joint.

"Stephen has been awesome for us all year," Tudor said.

"He has improved out of sight and it is very sad. He will undergo a full medical examination on Monday."

... terrible luck for the guy. Was starting to look the goods this year after a poor year last year (injured then?). Hopefully he will get another chance to prove himself.

poor bloke, as it happened so late this yr, its prob gunna rule him out 4 most of, if not all nxt season as well. hate 2 say it, but its prob the end of him. most unfortunate circumstances as well. i was watching it with my old man and as soon as he slipped u knew what it was.

all we can do is wish the little fella all the best.

Is that possible? :P

Pretty bad news. Saw him go up the race. Surprised it was a knee injury. The top half of his leg was swollen.

Poor kid, it's really concerning how many knee injuries happen in Aussie Rules at all levels, couple of blokes I play with in our Central Qld league have done their knees, out for ages.

Poor fella. Just starting to get some form going too...
Hope he has a good, speedy recovery!

"Young Geelong defender Stephen Owen will undergo a reconstruction on his knee after rupturing his ACL in the Cats VFL clash with North Ballarat on Saturday.
Owen suffered the injury in the final quarter of the Cats 71 point win. He is likely to be sidelined for 12 months.
The 20 year old Owen is the second Geelong player to suffer a ruptured ACL this year, joining Joel Reynolds on the sidelines. Reynolds has resumed running after undergoing surgery during the pre-season.
Owen has played 30 VFL games with Geelong since being drafted in 2005. He was a member of the Cats VFL grand final team last season."

This makes me so sad. :(

It sucks even worse when players get injured in thrashings when the game is already over. E.g. Chapman's hamstring against the Tigers.
