Morning everyone.

I stumbled across this article yesterday following Schwarz' appearance on Open Mike where he says that Neeld won't be the coach for too much longer.

Firstly, it's great that he seems so passionate about getting involved, but I was just wondering given his already strong thoughts on Neeld's ability (or lack there of) would getting him in to make some tough decisions be the way to go?

Of those points you make, first of all I'll just say how superb Open Mike was on Monday night.

I think we need to make tough decisions. If the club isn't progressing the way it should be we almost have no choice. Personally, I think Neeld should last the year but after that we'll have to see what the best option is - whether anyone has been fired (let's say a John Worsfold) or someone who can coach and has remained with the game as a critic (such as a Paul Roos). Great to see the Ox willing to help out.

While he sounded sincere with his offer to help out, he also sounded a little reserved due to his financials. I liked his candor though, the club could use someone like that down there.

Is the Ox try to set himself up as the new Gary Lyon? The man people want to the club to turn to in a crisis.
I’m annoyed at Lyon/the situation of calling on him to step up. He doesn’t want to, and when he does it’s half arsed.
Let’s just hope The Ox is more proactive and does something other just saying stuff in the media.

Thanks for the reply. I also enjoy Open Mike but haven't actually seen this episode.

It seems there are two major schools of thought on Neeld from Melbourne supporters: that he is ordinary, or that the club is in such a bad state that he simply can't be judged at this stage. It's great if Schwarz wants to get involved (hopefully in more of a Dunstall way than a Gary Lyon way) but from his language it sounds like he has made up his mind on Neeld, and at the moment you probably don't need decisions made in frustration or anger. I don't know Schwarz so I could be off the mark. Just thought I'd share the article.

The episode should be up on the fox footy website for the rest of the week. Definitely worth a watch.

Could the Ox join the club in a specialist coaching role? Listening to him on Open Mike, talking about his footballing ability and mindset (loving hitting packs and taking marks), maybe he could be at training once fortnight taking a forward line "class"? Hogan, Dawes, Howe & Clark and Watts especially could learn a lot from him.

Dermott Brereton does it with Patton etc up at GWS.

Thanks rhaz, a great watch.

Inexperienced senior coach and inexperienced assistant coaches, coaching inexperienced captains, captaining inexperienced players. Mix them in with unsuccessful board members and unsuccessful assistant coaches and what do you get? MFC.

Yep, he has the longtermgevity of the club as the main interest & wants to see us return to successful times.

I haven't watched it yet but I'm angry at the comments of his that were published.

I know his job is to commentate; but I don't like his lack of support for the coach. I don't understand we're it comes from, and the fact that he has reached his conclusion worries me.

Don't think he'd be any good for the club other than perhaps in a fwd line coaching position.

Don't think that's a word...

Anyway, yeah if he wants to coach the tall forwards in a specialist capacity i'd be all for it.
Not an SEN listener I guess.

Haha I thought it must have been some kind of in joke.

Was it David who used it?
Yeah last year he was talking about something and used that 'word'.

Has been replayed & quoted a few times to bag him. I lost it when he first said it, classic new word.

Similar to 'interfrastically'

Haha classic.

I'm watching the open mike interview now. It's pretty heavy, dude is a survivor.

He pretty much said that he doesn't know him as a coach but the results dictate he won't be around after the season. Nothing really earth shattering, he wasn't muck raking or anything. It's a great interview I went through a huge range of emotions watching it. It was magic watching him in 94 before the 3 knee injuries. The amazing thing he said was that when he finally got his knees right he'd blown out to 123KG as his playing weight from being virtually trapped in the weights room for a couple of years. No wonder he had the turning circle of an ocean liner at that stage after being one of the most agile bigs you could imagine in his youth.

I disagree with his decision to comment, but Schwartta is a Dees supporter and it's not hard to understand why he may want Neeld out or 'where his comments have come from'.

He didn't go hard at Neeld. He Pretty much said/feels what most of us have. Not sure about Neeld as a coach.

My favourite part of Ox's story is still the goddamn personalised number plate.
