Pacemaker: Free agency a joke
West Coast Wonders up and comer pacemaker has voiced his concern with the free agent system currently in place in the SFA. In a interview with the Western Australian when asked about what do you believe are some negatives in playing in the SFA? Pacemaker replied “I believe the free agency system is starting to become a joke, there are approximately 25 regular posters in the SFA and about 15 semi-regular posters. When you have such a system in place when a player can leave for nothing and join another club this has the ability to create one super club". When asked can you elaborate further on this pacemaker replied “Baghdad Bombers, missed out narrowly in this years finals race and it seems the disappointment of this has lead to a major recruiting binge”. EKA nominee Tim_saints, statsfanatic an experience SFA player and a couple of other retired legends have been rumoured to join such as TFLUA-Tiger and Whomb are just a couple of names being mentioned who were recruited post -season in a bid for Baghdad to win a flag. “ I just don’t think its fair in my own opinion, you just need to look at the southern dragons they lost two stars with one rumoured to have been a future captain in a couple of years time". Pacemaker went on further to say “this is going to create an unbalanced competition where one super club has 18 regular posters, and all the other clubs will manage on average 6 regulars”. The competition is set to expand with the revival of the Fitzroy Roys and CEO of the SFA doggiesin08 has made it clear that there will be no new clubs due to the fact of not enough regular members posting. When asked to comment on this pacemaker added “ It is going to be hard for any club particularly Fitzroy to hold on to these blue chip players who post when you have one super club containing 60% of them”. When asked what should be the solution to counteracting this problem pacemaker added “ It would be unfair to make contracts compulsory in the SFA as players can have falling outs with clubs within a month or 2. I believe a pre-season draft like the one in the AFL should be incorporated into the SFA at the end of the year. If a player wants out they nominate for this draft and this give any club a chance to sign the player. Now the player can request to go to a club but may not necessary be picked up by that club” and will need to wait for the mid-season trading the following year to get their wish if they still desire it". Pacemaker added “now I know this is going to have many disagreements but something needs to be done to counteract this problem”. Just recently this week information had been leaked that two stars Okeydoke (Mt Buller) and Boncer (East Side) are a legitimate chance in being recruited by the Bombers. When this was put to pacemaker he replied “those are only rumours I would think Okeydoke is a loyal person and will stay with Mt Buller and if this doesn’t occur I don’t think he will end up there as there is some hostile relationship with him and some bomber players, and I would suggest Boucer is in the same boat. I hope they both stay put as if they leave and join the bombers it would be a disappointing day for the SFA”. If somehow the bombers are able to sign these two starts it would add to there impressive list of stars recruited this year. In a concluding comment pacemaker stated in a sarcastic manner“ Every regular poster might as well all go and play for the bombers and we could leave the remaining clubs for new players to sort themselves out”. Pacemaker was also targeted by the bombers in there massive recruiting binge but remained loyal to the West Coast Wonders signing until the end of 2010.
