Recommitted Paddy Dow [OOC 2023] explored his options, but stayed

I dont see why Carlton would stand in his way if he was guaranteed more oppotunity at another club for a pick in the 30's. Even if he has a contract. He is too far down the pecking order to get a game without a few injuries. All they would be doing by not facilitating a trade would be upsetting Patty and possibly his team mates at the club. Simply to hold on to a player not likely to get much game time in 2023.

You're choosing to side with semantics rather than assess the situation with even the slightest bit of logic.

Each to their own I guess, but claiming he hadn't cemented a spot because he's now out of the side years down the track is nonsense.
Am I missing something? He was given opportunities he didn’t deserve to grow and develop in his first 2 years, Teague came in and decided to change to a win now over develop mode and pushed him out and now Voss is in the same mode and he is playing VFL because Voss deems him to have not cemented a spot in the team. Can you please tell me how I’ve assessed the situation wrong?

I doubt we let him go that cheaply unless we need to put his salary towards another player.

He is still a required player at Carlton.
What is he required for?
He's a depth player, he's not best 22 and will only play for injuries.

If that's the definition of required player then 80% of players on AFL lists are "required players".

Paddy isn't a key chess piece planned in the Carlton side moving forward.

Yes. Dow has shown he can get rack up clearances i at AFL level. He just hasn't had the tank to play full games and has been poorly developed where he was often played as a forward in the 1s rather than a mid in the 2s. He is now being developed in the correct position and is consistently get 8 clearances 30 + possessions and kicking goals despite heavy tags. While he has flaws he is clearly a level above VFL with his burst and sidestep.

80% of players would be required. Clubs generally turn over 6-10 players per off-season which confirms that.

He won’t be going for a third round upgrade, which is what the poster I replied to suggested.

We and Hawthorn have had a good trading relationship over the past 5 or so years, wouldn't surprise me if we traded Dow to them rather cheaply/for mates rates.
Too similar to players we already have and need to move on. VFL or SANFL bound once his contract is up seems most likely outcome.

Reminds me a lot of Kane Tenace.

That was mostly due to Wright and SOS who were quite close, and both them have now moved on.

Was BOG again in our VFL team this weekend.

If he doesn't get a call up soon, I almost get the feeling he has told the club he will leave/want to be traded at the end of the season.

Was just thinking the Suns could be a good fit for him, they have had good luck with some of our discards, Casboult, Holman etc

Could be considered in a trade for a KPD, like a Zerk-Thatcher or Reid... Would be a win-win for both clubs...

Carlton get the KPD depth they need (Essendon stocked for KPP) and Essendon get the big bodied inside mid they need...

Dow would be FREE to good home.

Dow would be FREE to good home.

Considering he is contracted for 2023, can't see that happening... Would now have to be beneficial to both clubs...
Considering this thread is 11 pages long... Dow must have some interest from opposition supporters...

Tiger supporters seem pretty keen putting down any trade suggestions that doesn't involve them... Do you guys secretly want him?

I think most supporters including Tigers see him as a free swing.

The only reason tigers fans have brought him up is because his brother plays for us, realistically wouldn’t be a need for us, also we thought he was Ooc for awhile and thought it was a free hit, note that we know it’s not, no thanks

Or the coach doesn't rate him?

His contracted for next year, so you'd have to trade for him...

Miller would probably be of interest to us if his available...
But... I just don't see Dow being traded or wanting to go...
You can't see a bloke not getting a game even when other midfielders go out injured despite dominating vfl level wanting to leave? Are you new to footy? Guys like him leave their clubs every year for opportunity

Zerk-Thatcher, maybe.

But there is zero chance we would trade Reid for Dow.
Zero.

Maybe read the first 2 words of my post genius...
It was this bit I was referring to - ". I just don't see Dow being traded or wanting to go..."

If you cant see someone in his position wanting to go you've got your head in the sand. Players want to play and he's not getting opportunity to this point despite great form in the twos and when spots have opened up but still been overlooked.

If you are so obsessed with him, then trade something we would accept for him...
