What is the benefit of trading dow for a late pick. Yeah okay a second rounder makes sense but i highly doubt we would get that for him.

Lipinski got us a pick in the mid 40s. He showed infinitely more than Dow has, but obviously he wasn’t contracted the following years which I think cancels out the form shown.

He was also behind an elite midfield and couldn’t get games.

Carlton would be lucky to be offered something similar.

Only the 5th based on his ability to play well in other areas of the ground.

Dow is an elite clearance player with elite hands. Can be a good pressure player on his day but needs to work harder defensively. Speed from the contest is great and he rarely gets tackled himself. Struggles to find the ball in transition though he is improving. Doesn’t have a second position which is ultimately his down fall at Carlton. His disposal by foot is now serviceable.

If a club brings him in as a pure clearance mid they should have some success. Would like to keep him as he is at the very least great depth and he does have a lot of potential.

until otherwise known he's a required player and has showed zero indication that he is unhappy and wants to move...

Which is why I brought up the guys. If Dow isn't getting a game when the only players to play every game are Docherty/Newman (Running Defenders), Weitering/Curn (KPP) and Fisher/Owies (Small forwards) suggests there has been many opportunities to bring Dow in for a game or 2 given his VFL form yet the coach opted against it

The opportunity hasn't really been there in the midfield though, which is where Dow would be playing.

As explained above, we've essentially got 5 gun mids we're slotting into 4 spots, with Walsh playing the half forward role. If one of that core 5 misses for whatever reason, of course we're going to reshuffle as a starting point.

If two miss we'll need extra midfield support which is where Dow comes into consideration.

We got nothing in picks for SPS but turned it into Young, currently best 22.

Also depends what he’s on salary wise. If he’s on decent money we’d probably be better to move him on and use the space elsewhere. If he’s on peanuts then the trade will need to be worthwhile.

MSD picks go on the rookie list, Dow is on the primary list. Not really relevant. Primary list spots are tight as ever @ every club.

He'd be stupid to not ask for a trade. I'm sure he likes the club and has no hard feelings, but for his own career he should look elsewhere for a full-time midfield spot at AFL level. He's way down the pecking order with us.

Trading him for a late pick doesn't seem beneficial but I genuinely think if clubs approach trading with good, honest intentions then it works out. We didn't muck around with SPS and got him for a pick that got us Young. We bent over a bit in the Saad deal to get it done with ease and with our steak knives pick got Carrol (or Durdin?). Freo traded Cerra without fuss and they got Erasmus who looks like an absolute jet.

There's a reason why the better run clubs that are easier to trade with than others.

Holding Dow to a contract knowing he will never break into the side just coz is some Dodoro shit imo.

He won't play. He's running on 46% average disposal efficiency, and also only had 8 touches in the second half last week in the VFL when the game was there to be won.

He's very similar to Lachie Fogarty - can rack up a heap of the pill, can kick some nice goals, but they both go missing when there's a game on the line.

Disappointing that Lochie O'Brien (who arguably suffered worse under Teague and his poor coaching and came further back) was able to buy into Voss and his game plan.

Time to move him and see if we can somehow get a 4th round pick for him, and package that with the 4th we have from Port this year for hopefully an late 2nd/early 3rd round pick.

That would be a good result for us
