MRP / Trib. Paddy gets 3 weeks!

In my view MRP erred in judging McKernan's hit a strike and not rough conduct. If it's rough conduct he gets an extra week - 4 down to 3 with a plea.

McGinnity's tackle would be 3 down to 2 but for his record. Still haven't seen a replay of it yet but hopefully our QC thinks it's worth mounting an argument. If we roll the dice and Paddy gets four weeks, the extra game he misses is only the Gold Coast match.

what has happened to our game

I can't believe the "injury" of the player has so much weight to the judging. All players feel pain differently - what might hurt for some, might not hurt for others. Bernie Vince is soft, henceforth why he ended up looking "hurt"...poster boy.

I remember them officially saying 14 or 15 episodes which would lead up to the movie. If you've seen the latest last episode, you see it's left wide open for anything.

It's based on a medical report, not on him looking hurt. Vince hasn't really got a reputation as being soft either

McKernan's two-game ban about right, says Sanderson

SHAUN McKernan's two-match ban for elbowing Eagle Brad Sheppard in the head is about what Adelaide expected, says coach Brenton Sanderson.

Geelong coach Chris Scott was angered by the leniency of the suspension, saying: "For that to be worth two weeks … I think everyone in the world would say, 'That just doesn't smell right.'"

Sanderson said the tribunal process was confusing but that on this occasion, the punishment fitted the crime.

"We probably thought it'd be two or three weeks, it came back as two, so it's good for Shaun," Sanderson said.

"We've said for the whole way along it's hard to know what the penalty's going to be.

"There's a process in place, they've obviously gone through the process and it's spat out two weeks – that's what it is.

"There's times when I think there's some strange decisions and some times when they get it right.

"In this case, it's our player, he gets two weeks, let's just get on with footy hey?"

Sanderson was impressed by McKernan's aggression last Saturday night and while the suspension is untimely, it won't hurt the 22-year-old's chances of a contract renewal at season's end.

"That's the best game I've seen him play for us," Sanderson said.

"I liked the aggression but I didn't like the act (McKernan's hit) ... no one likes seeing that in footy.

"He didn't try and hurt the guy, it was just an undisciplined act which he now regrets."

Lol'd at the last bit in bold. Wtf was he going in with an elbow that high for then?

At least Chris Scott has his head screwed on.

I understand why they use medical reports, however outcome of player doesn't necessarily correlate with force used.

A moderate tap to the head in the wrong spot can concuss or fracture a jaw, whereas a massive hit like the one Sheppard copped can cause no serious injury.

So relying on the medical outcome is flawed IMO. It is objective, but massively flawed.

yeah its like letting a guy off for shooting a gun at someone but missing and saying "well he wasn't hurt, whats the problem?"

Its wrong but at the end of the day McKernan comes back for games against the Dockers, Port and North. Maybe that helps us, if he can help win a game against one of those sides. Unless he was suspended for 8 weeks it was never going to help us.

Paddy's was way over what he should have got. He must be feeling pretty unlucky - he can get his jaw broken and nothing happens, Priddis can get knocked out twice in tackles and nothing happens, yet his one armed semi sling tackle gets 3 weeks.
