Traded Paddy Ryder [traded to St Kilda with Dougal Howard]

Paddy's comments re his visit to Tullamarine suggest "saga mentality" is still very much a thing in at least certain areas of the Club.

He was clearly given, or felt, the cold shoulder by "some".

In his own words, he was going there a week ago, but after his visit he did a complete 180. It's still gonna be a while before that Club is healthy. Way too many seperate tangents still. Not a focused Club.

A bad trade for what? It will likely he a very late pick.

Im not fussed if he doesn't play am AFL game, but we need someone that can step in if Marshall goes down.

If he's playing good enough footy that they both play, then it's a bonus.
Ryder isnt the Good kinda Ruckman he once was, nore is he Great up Forward either, Bomber Thompson even stated " if only if he was consistent "

There is no secret some players didn’t want him back.
He made the best move from himself and all parties IMO.

goodluck with Ryder at the saints, but i got a bad feeling its gonna be a bad trade , he's Crap up forward

I think it is all about expectations.

He is not being recruited as a gun. This is an "old" Ryder past his best and not the "young" Ryder of seasons past.

If you ignore Alabakis, the International Rookie who is very raw and who wasn't good enough to play at VFL level, let alone AFL level, this year, with Longer and Pierce both retired due to concussion the Saints only have the one ruckman in Marshall on the list. You cannot have a list with only one ruck on it.

So the Saints desperately needed another ruck, and most likely two. So another younger ruck will probably be rookied or late picked.

So Ryder is being taken to provide coverage and back up in the ruck for two seasons. When Marshall is injured he will play the No 1 ruck and when not he will share the load with Marshall. Ryder will probably not play every game either, nor are we expecting him too.

Ryder will only cost a latish pick, or be a swap for a fringe player.

If Ryder performs this back-up role for us it will be a good trade for St Kilda.

A little extra bonus is that as Hill is his cousin it makes the Hill deal more likely to go through. Plus Ryder will no doubt also help the other indigenous players already at the club in Gresham, Long, Parker and Young.

what if Marshall goes down or Ryder Goes Down due to injury next year? your still left with the 1 Ruck, the saints are still gonna have to go to the Draft an get another Ruck , takes sometime in the VFL to Train another Ruck up to A+ , they dont just fall off the tree. the saints should of went after Billy Frampton.

Billy Frampton is an awful ruckman.

What?

What if we got Billy Frampton in the ruck and he got injured?

We'd still he left with one ruck.

We will take a ruck in the draft. We have one in our academy, but he is very raw, which is why it makes sense to take Ryder.

It is not Ryder vs a player like Frampton, but rather Ryder PLUS a ruck like Frampton.

Longer and Pierce both gone due to concussion. Two out, and so two in. Plus Rowe who was only there as back up (mainly as a keyfender) is also now gone.

Two rucks will brought on for 2020. Ryder is one of them.

Apart from the firsts we also have to have a ruck for Sandingham. So Saints will draft/trade for a player like Framptona State League Ruck etc.

Saints will most likely also take "Biggy: Bigoa Nyuon as an NGA selection, but he is more ruck/forward than ruck.

Rare would be a club that would have three genuine No1 rucks on their list. This is why Ryder is leaving Port after all. They had too many rucks.

But all of Saad,Smith,Stringer,Shiel had no issues coming to the club.

I mean what did he expect everything to be rosey like nothing happened? The way he left the club left a bad taste in some of the players and staff.

The victim blaming continues.

You listened to the whole Ryder conversation did you?
I didn’t think there was much wrong with what he said
“I just didn’t get a good feeling going back there” “...But when I went down to Moorabin there was a real sense of excitement”

It doesn’t matter what the context was, it’s not good publicity to go along with a medical dept that’s alienated your most important player.

If he is uncontracted, how come he isn't a free agent of some description? Is it due to the supplements saga and his move from Essendon?

Pretty sure you need to be at the one club for 8 years to become a free agent (and in the top 25% of earners at the club).

If he was delisted by port, he would be a delisted free agent. This could still happen, but not if port can profit from it, albeit a third or fourth round pick. Port don’t really want him to go, but are not going to block him from extending his career.

Totally out of context.

He did say that but later said he got hugs from some of the women, welcomed by the coaches and received his life membership from the club while there. Was also mentioned he was also very close to Dodoro.

Obviously no bad blood on either side, probably just felt there was a bit too much history and that gave him second thoughts.

Don't think its a slight on Essendon at all.
