Hawthorn weren't offering Sam Mitchell a deal to keep playing.

Not sure it has any relevance but Hawthron would absolutley have offered Sam Mitchell another year.

He was still our best player (and had just won the B&F in a top 4 side) when he left.

Hawthorn, however, are extremely accommodating in getting players to their clubs of choice. Sometimes a little too accommodating.

Ryder's fitness is the issue. He isnt a 22 or 25 game player..

A move back West pre retirement?

Eagles could do worse than letting Vardy go and replacing with Ryder to partner Naitanui for the next two years with Hickey as depth. All three would need breaks to get through a full season.

Good chance at snagging a flag at the Eagles as well.

Came to say this. Not sure if he is carrying something but he was up and about against us on the weekend for the first quarter, then basically a 2 minute chop-out ruck and passenger the rest.

He looks at least partly cooked.

Someone on our board here said they were at a club function the other night and that Lade gave an update on the playing group, and of Paddy, he said he feels like he's got a real point to prove and has shed 7kg since his last game for Port. May have just been carrying too much weight around and not fit enough.

Said not to expect to see him playing for Sandringham any time soon.

Great news if true, as it's only two years since he was in the AA team and he's "only" 31yo. Plenty are still playing terrific footy at 32/33yo these days, so it will be really interesting to see if he's able to get back close to his best.

Season after they both have been traded and this was a great win/win trade for both clubs

Paddy was excellent as the first ruck and Howard was great down back and finished 3rd in the BnF.
