waite never really fulfilled his potential and i would say at 27 is just about as good as he`ll get.....ryder however will continue to get better as he has only just turned 23

Waite is a better player now and I think he'll have a better season this year, Ryder has a lot of years left in the game yet and more time to make his mark.

Waite is better right now and should improve on last season given his knee reco, but Ryder will end up with the better career. If I had to choose one player right now it'd be Waite but with the future in mind it would be Ryder without a doubt.

Ryder is the type of player most teams need, not many around who can play Ruck, Back and Forward.
Sub rule makes the Ryder type of player that much more important.

Ryder would jump straight into Collingwoods side, where would Waite fit?

If Paddy was switched on for >90% of the game, he'd absolutely dominate and would be one of the top players in the AFL. Unfortunately, he only flicks the switch in bursts. Hopefully is becomes more focused under Hird. Could be anything if he does.

I think Waite would take Leigh Brown's position as a versatile forward/back.

..... however I'm not sure he could ruck.

You'd find a way to fit Waite in. He's a pretty good footballer at either end.
Despite the inevitable "oh but Dawes is 21 & a premiership forward/Cloke is the #1 contested mark in the league" that this post will create, Waite would slot straight in for one of them.
