Hi Essendon fans, just watching the great game today I was wondering what you all expect from Paddy in his second year at the club? What type of role would you be keen on seeing him play? I saw he played a fair bit in the backline today and looked quite composed, maybe a Michael Johnson type player who can also ruck a bit? Look foward to seeing what you all expect of him and would like to see him do,

good win and I'm very wary about next week, cheers :thumbsu:

Very good game, probably his best so far. Extremely good at ground level for a guy his size. I would say his comparison to Michael Johnson is a good one. Luckily for Paddy, he won't have to play on the best forwards every week thanks to Fletcher and big Mal. Look for him to have a good season, maybe like McPhee did for us a few years back.

wow its funny ho so many of you are praising paddy, it wasnt that long ago when alot of people where questioning actually drafting him, its amazing how 1 game and transform some of these bandwagoners

Well what's your opinion of his game?

he has a very good chance to get a nomination for the NAB rising star. his only competition is mitch brown from west coast.

he just looks so steady in defence. there were times when they kicked the ball long and i thought," s*** paddy is going to stuff up." but he just kept winning the one-on-one battles.

hopefully laycock plays the majority of the season so we can keep paddy in the backline

Geez, I didn't realise he was still eligible. Also look for some comp from Jetta.

yer paddy just sneaked in there after his 9 games last year.

jetta was good as well but i reckon paddy's game was more consistent than leroy's. i'm not bagging jetta, he was very impressive, all i'm saying is that paddy was very good.

he has come on in leaps and bounds from last season

Not the case for me, i could bring up about 20 posts of my praise for him:)

Ive been huge on Ryder since the day we drafted him. I cant believe how long it has taken many Essendon fans to see this gift from god we have been given. Didnt Sheedy say recently he would still have taken Ryder a #1, if we had that pick in that draft? The potential for this guy is truly scary.

Realistically, looking at his body, he is still 2 pre-seasons away from being physically at the level. Look at the difference his body is showing now from last season, and as he developes into a man, he may turn into a nearly un-manupabble force ala Franklin & Goodes.

From another thread I posted on:

Remember, Ryder is only 5 months older than Gumbleton, only 4 months older than Jetta, only 2 months older than Houli and actually younger than Neagle. We drafted him extremely young for his draft.

Very Very rarely you will see a tall KPP like him, at such a young age, with as much poise, positioning & class to add to his obvious athletisism at the top level.

He has all the makings of becoming very special, in fact more so than any other on our list IMO - and that is saying something.

From what I recall, many people were seeing loads of potential in him....you might be getting him confused with Bradley or Laycock.

I must admit he played really well yesterday, Michael Johnson is a good comparison also.. but I see him more of a Jeff White years ago when he was dominating.. as for this year I hope to see him consolidate a position and get better every week, this year I see him in the back line and pinch hit in the ruck, but in the years to come i see him as a ruckman...

As far as i can recal there was only one person who really questioned drafting him.

He might do something this year, i doubt it though. He also put on a fair bit of weight which will make him stronger in the packs and ruck contests

It's funny that someone who registered on this site in March 2007 knows what was happening on this site 6-12 months ago.
