Roast Paddy Ryder

i understand he may have personal issues. honestly though, his job is a to be a footballer. and he is paid to perform at a high standard.

if he has personal issues preventing him from focusing on football, then he should be played in the twos until he can give his football the attention it deserves.

he has been pathetic this year. for people to be calling for him to be replaced by laycock shows how far he has fallen. playing against hawthorn this week, he should DOMINATE the game.

This.

I thought he was part of the spark at the start of the last quarter last night. It was another average night but he took some important marks and did some very nice work around the clearances in the last quarter to have it as a break even performance even if his overall output was not particularly good.

What frustrates me with Paddy is his lack of pressure on the ball carrier. He holds the record for most tackles in a game by a ruckman (13 vs Collingwood, Anzac Day 09 I believe), so he should be getting at least half of that every game, and it would make a big difference.

Played better last night though. Well done Patrick. Hope everything sorts itself out for you.

Definitely worked harder around the contest as evidenced by 7 tackles.

Ruck work was very good - but needs to work harder like Hille - To get more loose ball gets.

was an improvement, but still needs to get more of the ball.

needs to watch hille's last quarter. gut busting running from the big man to offer a target 3-4 times in the last quarter. that's what ryder needs to do.

You turkeys.

Ryder averages 5.2 tackles a game this year (which is up on last year, when he averaged 4.7 and led out tackle count), Hille averages 1.7.

He's down on possessions, but not by a whole lot (9.8 v 12.5), has improved his goal kicking average slightly (and his scoring shots a fair bit), and is getting more hitouts than Hille as well.

Granted he can play a lot better, and we want him to, but all this whinging about his form is really missing the mark.

If you're going to make comments at least have a clue. His tackling pressure is one of the best in the team, only beaten by NLM (who gets plaudits for his efforts), Hocking (also someone else who is hard at it) and Stanton (who has really stepped up his physical game this year).

He was bad against Freemantle and Collingwood to be sure. But worthy of a 'roast' thread? Give it up.

Tomorrow night is the night we need you to stand up Paddy just as much as that Anzac day when backs were against the wall where that day brought you a medal, that i hope you have cherished ever since. You wont win a medal tomorrow night but you have a chance to stand up and make the season for our club. It starts with you. You've been given the sole ruck duties along with JoeD who on debut we expect to see you stand tall as a leader and an experienced determined footballer with a will to win and to create something special for this club. Lead JoeD and others by example tomorrow, its your stage, the lights are on you. Show the Carlton fans that you are the better ruck, the better 1st round pick then your opposition in Kreuzer, destroy him, destroy Carlton.

Noticed that Ryder not going so well and Bellchambers dropped for Daniher...any chance of Bellchambers trade at end of year?

How come Bellchambers got dropped? Thought that would be the biggest advantage the Dons had in this game. Ryder/Bellchambers better than Kreuzer/Casboult. Who does the second ruck job now?

Because he has been playing like crap. He's not doing enough in the middle, and he struggles up forward. Since the Collingwood game he hasn't done a whole lot in my view.

They are trying something new with the forward structure. Bellchambers and Ryder weren't getting enough reward down there, so they'll try with two genuine forwards instead.

By not going so well you mean decent to great in every game apart from the Sydney one, right?

Right.
I do watch a little bit of Ess and would've thought Belly had done enough to keep his spot.

On consideration Daniher is really in for Gumby anyhow.

Gonna be wet so one of Ryder/TBC had to be dropped.

Made the tough call, i like everyone am surprised i wouldve kept TBC in and not played JoeD but each to their own.

TBC is a laconic laid back type character who likes to get around the amazing girls and sometimes he needs a good kick up the arse, this is one.

Dont be surprised if he is a late IN for Carlisle and plays a really solid game for the club.

Hurleys taking Gumbys spot
Ryder is taking TBC spot
JoeD is taking Ryders spot

Thats the change for those non essendon fans

Patty plays the best when he is ANGRY maybe we need someone to slap him round a bit in change rooms before games !
