I think the club legitimately thought that Jack Watts was still going to be available, and I doubt Dougal would have been traded if the club knew Watts was going to call it.

List decisions are all based on risk. The risk that Watts and Mckenzie couldn’t hold the fort until Pasini developed or we were able to recruit another defender was obviously less than the risk of Howard flopping and losing all his draft value.

We had the number one defence this year. This may not have been the case if Dougal was there, it might have been better?

I still back that the club made the right decision at the time.

Until we see Williams play, and 20% of Mead and 20% of Jones, for the next 10-12 years, while monitoring Doogs, we wont know whether the trade was worth it.
