Pagan sacked!

There are just some things that require explaining what the new philosophy of the club will be from the top person. The CEO just doesnt cut it when a football club is changing direction as Carlton signalled today. Changing coach is a change in direction of the club. The club president usually defines the culture and direction at the club, the CEO administers it. The president needs to explain what the new direction is to be.

Changing coaches is just a normal part of the business. Its not a new anything, its just a new coach. The forum to ask the hard questions of the President is the AGM.

The perception here is that Pratt pulled the pin - everyone knows he's the one financing it. Christ the club can't even afford to pay the AFL back the money they loaned and they're paying out Pagan?

Private financial arrangements between club and coach and President are just that - private. Or so I read soemwhere. Hypocrite.

If the pres has been involved in the decision and indeed may have been the instigator of the change, then he needs to answer the questions. If it is his decision, then it requires his answers. I wouldnt say this for any other position for anyhting other than his own role and the coach.

Wow, had no idea there was this well thought out and obviously set-in-stone process that needs, nay, MUST be adhered to by all clubs when sacking the coach!

Give me a break

Greg Swann is the mouth of Pratt, that is part of the the CEO's job.

From the mouth of McGuire to the Mouth off Pratt, life just keeps getting better.

Actually a good CEO runs a business, but then again thats what happens when momey bank roles in, Gutnick all over again.

The press conference was not about the mess they were in, it was about sacking the coach.

No...the press conference is all about giving the men and women of the press the information that they will then base their newspaper reports on. It is simply about the message carlton want to get out into the ether.
And.....they did a good job!
The deal would have been done this morning, as follows:.
"Denis - you are finished".
"OK , what's the deal?"
"Denis, you get XXX dollars, this nice written reference, and we promise to make the right noises" (shows Denis list of right noises)
"OK" says Denis, "that looks pretty ship-shape to me. What do you want me to do?"
"Attend the 2pm meeting with Swanny, wear the Club jacket, and say all the right things to the inevitable (dead easy to predict) questions" (gives Denis list of appropriate responses).
"Ok by me - when does the XXX dollars hit the bank?"
"Five minutes after the press conference goes to script"
"Okey-dokey" says Denis "lets go!" " Oh, one more thing......can I keep the jacket!!!"

Its not a matter of money, its a matter of the person who makes the decision, explaining the decision

The CEO is qualified to answer those questions. I can understand why some would want Pratt out there - Collingwood would certainly have McGuire out there - but thats a matter for the club to choose how they break the news. I cant see what the big deal is.

The pres makes the decision, and who's to say the CEO agreed? The man who makes the decision should be man enough to tell everyone.

Pratt has sacked plenty in his time. He said all along he wouldn't be the media face. The whole Pagan sacking is just a timing issue.

Pagan is not the reason Carlton isn't performing, it is mostly the CEO's fault. Before Pagan arrived the club had ****ed up the sallary cap and lost a few years worth of draft picks, if they had those draft pics they would be a main bulk of the core group of players at carlton now. The CEO should be sacked unless i am mistaked an he is not the same as when the sallary cap incident took place.

They did that already, this guy is brand new.
