I think Warney was a bit stiff missing out MOTM honours.
Match figures of
17.5 overs 6 maidens 8/24
as well as 19 runs with the bat

It was a choice between him and Matthew Hayden for man of the match but in the context of the game, Hayden's score of 119 was significant in very trying batting conditions so they decided to go with him.

Cheers!!

That would have to be the lowest ever combined total of two innings, surely.

From what I can make out, South Africa holds the record for the lowest combined total in a test match when they scored 36 and 45 (total: 81) in the 5th test against Australia at the MCG in 1931-1932 to lose by an innings and 72 runs.

Cheers!!

I emailed the cricinfo statsguru, and it seems this is only the fourth worst effort of all time.

Combined total of both innings:

81-20 South Africa v Australia Melbourne 1931/32

90-20 South Africa v England Cape Town 1888/89

96-20 New Zealand v Australia Wellington 1945/46

112-19 Pakistan v Australia Sharjah 2002/03

115-20 England v Australia Lord's 1888

The match total of 422 runs is also the 14th lowest ever for a completed match.

It was a 300 run pitch, with the most of it to the batter's benefit. Warne went against those conditions for his bag. MOTM for mind.

It was a close call between Warne and Hayden, but considering that nobody else even managed to make 50, Hayden's 119 was significant and therefore deserved to be man of the match in my opinion.

I reckon Warne for MOTM. His consistant effort in both bowling innings was great! He was the main attacker in the bowling attack which kept Pakistan to an embarrasing 1st and 2nd innings scores!

Warne, 8 out of a possible 19 wickets. On a batting pitch, a pitch expecting to give a minimum 300 runs, that is impressive.
19 wickets so far for the series. Must be a shoe in for Player of the Series.

Matthew Hayden: 119 (for the loss of his one wicket)
Pakistan: 112 (for the loss of their 19 wickets)

Now that's impressive!! :D:D

I agree with you that Warne's performances so far in the first 2 tests would have him favourite to take out the Player of the Series award.

Cheers!!
