Sometimes statistics can lie, but not these ones. So far in the series, Pakistan has amassed 1371 runs and lost just 20 wickets in doing so (68.55 runs per wicket). On the other hand, Australia has just 780 runs and has lost all 30 wickets (26 per wicket). It's been a massacre of epic proportions!!!!!!
That's an absolute flogging!

As frustrating as Maxwell can be when he goes out like he did yesterday, he is so damn good to watch!

It's kinda like watching a cross between an aggressive top order batsman like Sehwag and a lower order pinch hitter like Afridi.
That's who I think of when I see him. About as much interest in assessing the situation. Shame he's not as good a bowler as Afridi.

In a position like this, there is no way they'd bat for a draw. Only Alastair Cook would do that.

It will be up to Australia to bat for the draw.
Yeah. They will declare but it might be later than a team normally would, just to avoid the small chance of losing the game. Where teams in this position would normally declare at lunch, I reckon Pakistan will bat till tea

I guess they might as well. Zulfiqar and Yasir Shah could bowl us out in less than a day on a Day 5 pitch I reckon.

I'm arguing he doesn't have the technique. He doesn't have a Test technique and I doubt he ever will. More holes in his defense than Brad Haddin, and by gee his is just awful.

And he nicknamed himself the big show. Guy is a flog in real life.
If we didn't want to select flogs in our team then half our golden era wouldn't of gotten a look in.

Different kind of flogs.

The cricketer to compare his batting to is Gilchrist. Gilly was a success because he came in a 7, behind a batting line-up that had already compiled 5-400. Then he could go nuts and just pile it on. Gilly would have sucked as a number 4 coming in at 2-20 on a regular basis.
Gilly would've been a dominate #4.

This. For Test Cricket, he may have the talent, he may have the technique but he sure as **** doesn't have the temperament. Numbers 3 and 4 definitely need the temperament and you can't teach temperament.

That's not his fault - he's being paid a small fortune to be a slogger in T20, and he's then built up by the cricket fanboi media for being a slogger. Calling him The Show (or whatever weak as piss nickname they've given him) just plays up to that.

Gilchrist would of dominated anywhere in the top 7. The bloke was a once in a lifetime player.

I think many of the comments being made about Maxwell now would have been made about Warner a few years ago.... He certainly showed he could have an impact at test level despite being classed as a 20/20 specialist by many. Maxwell should be given a few tests to see if he has what it takes.
You're forgetting what Warner showed against NZ in Hobart 2011, he showed that he can play according to the match situation in just his 2nd test match and made a well compiled 123* in a losing cause. In other words, Warner showed that he could play a test match innings at the earliest stages of his career while Maxwell has shown at the same stage of his test career that he cannot play a test match innings, he can only play all guns blazing. Nothing Maxwell has done so far indicates that he can be anything more than a slogger.

Couldn't give a stuff about entertainment value. Test cricket is about making the most of the situation and batting long periods when required. If you want sixes, go watch T20. I'll take an 80 in a full days play if it means the player in question is not out.
Test cricket is my no 1 format and I subscribe to all the key notions of succeeding in test cricket.

But when you see a top order batsman going at a 100% strike rate in a test, it is simply captivating.

Sehwag's 195 at the G, Chanderpaul's 69 ball ton and Gayle's 100 at the WACA come to mind. Also, I remember seeing Afridi hit McGrath for a six over cover at the SCG, that was just insane.

And do they get out the way Maxwell does?

Afridi is a good example - an incredibly overhyped and mediocre career. Shit averages in all formats with bat and ball.
