And then you've got Wells who can only remember hearing about a drop punt every second week ;)

Harsh, Wells was very good last year and will have a very good one this year too.

On topic, I remember Judd's disposal was never that crash hot (not comparing the players obviously), I'm really not that concerned, however if by say 5 or so rounds in this year and it's still bad, I will be.

Still, typical Hackdorn rubbish, **** me the guy is a tosser.

No it wasnt, what an ignorant post.

It wasnt outstanding but it was hardly ordinary and his footskills were miles ahead of were Palmer is when they first started.

Yes it was... and its still not in the elite bracket i would have said... his whole game is and always has been based on his physical ability to run and break tackles at will... which is awesome btw

Open the other eye, his field kicking was very good, his disposal by hand was and remains outstanding.

The only area that appeared to be a weakness was his finishing in front of goal, especially from a set shot, on the run he was good.

No they weren't, they were the major gripe Eagles fans had with him. He shanked kicks too often.

Shanked?

Im not going to argue this further, IMO Judd had above average footskills and at the same time in his career he was miles ahead of Palmer in this aspect of his game.

Judd's kicking is still average at best. He bombs the ball more often than not.

Judd skills in almost all areas are elite. In his best season (2006) he was near the very top for kicking accuracy. The idea that he had or has a weak kick is based on people looking for flaws in his game that aren't there.

And that was with him kicking in contested situations more often that not. His kicks weren't low bullets every time, but yet they almost always landed where he wanted them.

The thing I think that stands out most about Judd's kicking is that he drops little, if at all, in terms of accuracy when at full pace. At his pace that is outstanding.

I do remember an Eagle mate of mine saying early on that he thought Judd was a bad kick. He changed his tune pretty quick from memory.

Even though Palmer has got to really improve his kicking, the bolded area says it all. He is still a kid, he will improve and people are just looking for an excuse to kick him in the guts. People like Hackdorn are not worth reading. He is an A class Knob jockey of the highest order and makes up shit to sell stories

He will improve but to suggest it isnt an area of concern isnt the best idea.

How is it an area of concern if you can state that he will improve? Natural development and maturity should see his effectiveness improve. If after a season or two it doesn't, then it may be an area of concern.

Palmer had a pretty rough initiation into AFL, as an 18 year old in his first season he pretty much rocked up and ran the midfield for you guys. He had almost 100 more possessions than the next best player, while missing a few games as well. As a result he was often kicking under pressure, and didn't have a lot of support around him.

Most players have a few problems that need to be ironed out when they start in the AFL, his kicking problems were only noticed and commented on because he got the ball so bloody often. In his first year he still did a very good job of getting it out of the centre, and will likely improve several aspects of his game as he goes along.

His kicking might not ever be elite, but it seems he has recognised the problem and is working on it. You can't ask much more than that. His inside game is very solid and it will probably be where he plays his best footy.

I think Palmer is the perfect investment, he's an inside ball winner who runs his opponent ragged and takes the game on, 9/10 times he makes the right decison by hand and draws many a player, this creates time and space for his teammates.

A little overblown but certainly an area to fine tune.
O RLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????

Go on. Do tell us about that thread you started last year about it...

Open the other eye,

Spoken like a true Eagles troll

And here you are once again defending an eagles player, and to make it worse is that your trying to bad mouth the bloody rising star winner, and a freo favourite already, and you still think people will not see through your poor attemps at trolling???

piss off mate, your a stain on the community

Palmer's kicking only seemed to become a problem when the Eastern Staters started to realise that he was a shoe in for the rising star award. Seems to me that all of a sudden there was a whole raft of people going over his game in a critical fashion.
By the same token does anyone recollect hearing about how few goals Rioli scored? No?
I suspect that most of the criticism relates to his right foot kicking style which, let's face it, was bloody awkward. But that can be corrected with practice. Therein lies the answer.
Some years ago I read Craig Johston's book when he went to England to play soccer. Arrived as a 13 year old. He realised his skills were lacking so he got up at 3am every morning and took a ball into a bricked in corner and just practiced left ffot, right foot volleys.
I also read a book more recently on champions of the AFL. Buckley, Hudson, Voss and a host of others. Great book by the way. But each of them had the same message: practice. Not just practice but perfect practice.
Whether it be Palmer, Tarrant or De Boer, there is one answer, do the work.

Certainly lacks Ibbotson penetration and accuracy but is it really that bad?

The guy is an in and under player who consistently gets his hand's on the ball first and clears it, he does that as good as anyone I have seen in a long time.

If he can't kick goals from outside of 50, then palm it off to a Ibbotson/Headland/Hill etc running past. That said how many times have we seen players struggle with their kicking early in their career and see it improve as they get older (Tredrea springs to mind).

More hard hitting stuff from the emo, composes a hate letter now, voodoo doll?

At no stage in this thread have I bad mouthed Palmer, thats just you making shit up.

If anyone on here wants to argue that Judds footskills, at the same stage in their career were worse than Palmer then you are a fool.

Im can recognise this, it's not hard.

Arguing for the sake of it seems to be your only motivation.
