Funny you should say that, some of our players are starting to remind me of richmond players...

I don't mind if someone has a bad game, as long as they have a go, all you can do is your best. But tell me, in all honesty, do YOU know which Fev is going to turn up Sunday?

More to the point do YOU think his behaviour at times this year, ON THE PARK has been acceptable? As a member of our leadership group, do YOU think he provides a good example to our young players?

That first game aginst Freo, man that smelt bad, there have been a few since as well. Does Fev know that he is representing a club and its supporters each weekend?

You earn respect chief, look at Cox/Judd, you could cut their throats and they would still be running, they are leaders and champions.

Now here we are asking, which Fev is going to front up, see a difference.

It is interesting though how it is always Fev that cops the most criticism, yet when I was trying to do the votes after Friday night's game I struggled to find 3 (not 5) good players. That tells me that there was a significant number of Carlton players who didn't turn up to play.

It is not as simple as which Fev we are going to get. How about which Carlton are we going to get. I was thinking back to the Adelaide game earlier tonight & I was reminded of a very disinterested Chris Judd running around that afternoon. He decided very early on that day that he wasn't going to be able to break his tag so he ran around barely in second gear.

I've seen Marc Murphy just coast around more than once this season. Once again because things weren't going his way. Murphy was great on Friday night, but will we get that Murphy or the Murphy we got against St Kilda in the previous game, having no impact on the game?

People are too quick to forget how Fev has become one of the best forwards in the game, despite having played for the worst team of the last 7 years. Despite being on the end of **it delivery from upfield for the majority of the last 7 years (even on Friday night our disposal into the forward line was absolutely diabolical). Sure it would be a lot better if Fev didn't wear his heart on his sleeve so much, but it is that same personality that has got us home, or at least back into games, on a number of occasions.

I would hate to think just how bad we would have been over the last 7 years without one quality forward putting his hand up more often than not (463 goals from 2003 until the present).

every week it is the same old story we lose Fev is to blame, the problem is far deeper than one player.
I don't think anyone is blaming Fev for the loss, certainly I'm not. Its not about how well he plays or does not, its not about how many goals he scores..or does not, its about how he plays, effort, hard work, being a role model, god forbid a leader of the side.

If you are only concerned with his results onfield rather than his efforts, then this chat is waste of time.

We all know what he can do, chase, tackle, lead by example, its just he only does that when he feels like it.

No champ, not at all, we have a lot of young kids out there, had a lot of injuries as well, makes it tough, and still could make the 8.

But Fev has just about worn out his welcome with a lot of people. I would prefer to see a kid down there busting his guts every week, the look of joy on his face when he scores a goal...and we have Fev, but which one is going to turn up..oh and all those other kids in our side, get to watch this happening every second or third week, on the park, while they are busting their guts...

And if he kicks 8 goal on the weekend, is that okay, does that make everything okay, no, ot does not, cause you just know, in 2 or 3 weeks..

if Carlton actually had a quality young key forward on their list then it would be reasonable to suggest this may be a course of action to take, but what do we have O'Alphin, Fisher, Wiggins, Hartlett as possible replacements, again they all have in the system for a significant period and neither of these will provide a short or long term solution.

MS, Fev can be a great player on his day, and he has brought a lot of joy to Carlton people over the years, I would never disagree with you on that.
He will bring a lot of joy in the future as well, perhaps this weekend, perhaps the next..

Having said that, you never actually answered any of my questions.

Player or team MS, which comes first?

It is an interesting question, but even though it is a given that the team should come first, the team is always bigger than the individual, but good Fev is worth so much more to the team than the negatives that come from bad Fev. Good Fev has turned up a lot more than good Carlton has in the last 7 years & the fact is bad Carlton has turned up 3 times this year (Fremantle, Adelaide & Essendon) ie the majority of the 22 selected have performed poorly. This has been the rule rather than the exception for too long, hence why it is unfair to single out one player, particularly when some players seem to escape the same criticism, despite having less runs on the board at our club.

MS, it's not so much the performance it's the attitude. When a bloke is down oer tha ball isn't being delivered that well I want to see hiim direct his frustration into chasing a bit harder, or applying some controlled aggression, or something to lift, not stand there with head down and had on hips.

I remember Fev sitting on the sideline of Subi with his shoes off gesticulating to Pagan.....MSR I know what you are saying but he should have been straightened out by now.A road trip to Perth is not easy. If he is not fit then OK don't play him but if he is OK then his reponsability to the club is to hit the road like evryone else and put in 100% for what we pay him to do. Play Fev and send Stevo to fish off Wilson's Prom.
We need to win this game more than ever after the Ess flogging. We can do it as long as defeatism has not rotten our core!

Can't argue with this, but unfortunately he is not the only one that doesn't do this sort of stuff when things aren't going so well. In our 3 bad performances this year there have been a number of our players who have basically 'turned it up' (including high profile players) & just gone through the motions, yet Fev comes in for harsher criticism despite having been our best performer over the last 6 1/2 years. The only difference is that it is easier to identify Fev's bad days, although if you watch the body language of some of our other players, you can pick their bad days very early in a game.

I wont disagree with you, it can happen to any player any time, but you can still try and lead by example. And yes he is not alone, Stevens is another.

Its been said before, Fevs 'tude can be like a cancer, it spreads...

I would also like to point out once again, that both he and Steven are part of our leadership group. If they dont lead, WTF are they doing there to start with. Being part of that group comes with obligations, both at times have failed to meet those.

Listen Fev is a star, one of our gun players, but this is not under 10's, and without a doubt, the TEAM always comes first. Once you start making exceptions, where do you stop, you send a signal...it is acceptable if you are good enough.

If we want to move on and compete, we need Fev to help lead, sadly, not much has changed in this regard, he shows a lot in a couple of games then he goes AWOL again.:(

I'm excited about Kreuzer as well. It will be great to have him back in the team for the 2nd half of the season to get him back into match condition for the finals.

No Luck for Austin looks like Season 2011 is getting destroyed already another 6 weeks add 2 more at least for insurance. It feels like he will need only 10-12 games to show how he can save a AFL career. He has a mountain to climb with missing also pre season a bit.I guess their always a rookie list if they still have some faith if they decide his time up on the main list.

With his injury being a forearm break, he'll be able to use the next 6 weeks as a pre-season. He'll be able to, and should be encouraged to, get himself into peak fitness without the trouble of playing on wkends.

If it was an uncomplicated fracture, and the fact that it wasn't diagnosed immediately indicates that there was no displacement, he should be back within that time frame. I've broken wrists and forearms that have required surgery and have had full range of motion and strength within that time.

In saying that, he'll need a bit of luck from here on in if he's to return to the seniors in 2011, but all the best to the kid :thumbsu:
