It would be good to see this kid left in Willi firsts and given a chance.
I would have thought 10 at VFL reserve level for a rookie would be worth promotion (obviously not ) so hopefully after 5 this weekend he will get his chance - and that is some real game time over suuccesive weeks.
From what I have read & heard the kid has talent - a good lead , good hands and kick - key attributes we need to develop at a higher level.

Problem for Panos as a rookie is the limitation on numbers of AFL listed players and the players he competes with for a spot.

Williamstown have Little at full forward and the Dogs are also trying to get games into Liam Jones as another tall forward, while Everitt has played predominately forward in his VFL games.

Hard to fit Panos in to that mix, particularly as he is the least adaptable of those players.

Spot on Joe ! Do Collingwood / Geelong have the same restriction with them and AFL listed players ?

Hard to knock little and those guys as they have had awesome years (tipping little will attract AFl interest) but would be such and advantage if they could play more afl listed players than willi.

Would love to see him in the seniors but with no real spot available he has to play in the reserves. Little is the leading VFL goal kicker and Williamstown are going great guns atm

There is plenty of time for him, will be upgrade next year and will probably look to cement a senior Willy spot.

Remeber he is only 18 years old and there is plenty of time left for him to develop.

What is really exciting is that we have got loads of very decent talls on our list for the first time that i can remember.

No rush to upgrade. He can stay on the rookie list next year and see if he develops to cover the deficiencies that prevented him being drafted in the first place.

Id think we would upgrade him to stop someone else from grabbing him considering its a compromised draft for the next couple of years.

We can re-rookie him without him becoming available to other clubs if he agrees, and considering no other club picked him up until we pounced in the third round of the rookie draft I don't think him being poached is too big an issue.

Don't forget that the bag of 10 goals was kicked against Frankston. Their reserves currently have a percentage of just 24.52%

7 in the last quarter (out of 14 goals that quarter) against a guy he had 10cm on plus 15kg.

can you shed some light on his 5 goals this week? were they well earned against semi-decent opposition?

His 2nd half performance was once again better than his first half but I think he played a lot better this week than the previous one.

Ok a blast from the Past.

Matthew Panos polled 18 votes in the Magarey Medal to finish equal 4th.
Done well in the past three years since his reinvention as a big bodied inside midfielder.

Why are you guys bumping this thread? Seriously that boat has shipped years ago!

You never know the boat might have shipped, safely navigated the earth and re-entered the harbour.

Might be time for Matty to make a reservation at Dana Beveridge's table.

**** that. Trade Schache and Boyd, and bring back the mighty Trent Bartlett!

Geelong supporters attitude probably would have been quite similar when they got twice delisted Sam Menegola.

Hey I’m not saying draft the guy - just thought some fans would be interested to see where he is playing and how well he is doing at the lower level.
Melbourne almost took him as a big bodied mid a couple of years back, but took Aaron Vandenberg instead from the NEAFL. (OMR)

Pfft. Galaxy Glenn Coleman or it’s nothing.....

Galaxy was actually a pretty good player and shouldn't really be grouped with the Trent Bartlett's and Kingsley Hunter's of this world.

In 1992 Coleman took 162 marks and kicked 24 goals. In an era where uncontested marks were much less common.

162 marks is more than double that of any ruck/KPP player on our list this year (Trengove 80 marks the most by a ruck/KPP). Hunter (117) the most of all players this year.

One of my favourites from a bygone era....

Legend. How many other players have a Group 1 horse race and a leading goalkicker award named after them?
