Summer Paris 2024 - Day 15

The penultimate day.

Yesterdays highlights included Rai Benjamin, Spain in the soccer, Netherlands outlasting China in the women’s hockey gold medal match, Kenny Bednarek just continuing to run away from Coleman. USA claiming bronze in men’s volleyball. A few more medals for Australia.

But it was all about Raygun. She will be etched in Olympic history. For all the wrong reasons. Oh boy. Breaking probably won’t ever be in the Olympics again so she sure made a lasting impression.

Day 15 highlights:

Plenty of action. A huge night/morning ahead. Stingers in the gold medal match, can they do it? They already produced one of my highlights of these Olympics in their SF win. Jessica Hull in the women’s 1500m, Mackenzie Little in the javelin, medal chances in diving with Rousseau. We could and should secure a few more medals today.

Volleyball and basketball men’s gold medal matches. And of course the 4x400m relays on the track which are always fascinating viewing.

• 6:00: Handball - Women’s bronze medal match Denmark vs Sweden
• 6:15: Sport climbing - Women’s boulder and lead
• 6:30: Canoe sprint - Women’s K1 500m SF, mens K1 1000m SF.
• 8:35: Sport climbing - Women’s boulder and lead final
• 8:40: Canoe sprint - Women’s K1 500m final followed by men’s 1000 K1 final
• 9:00: Volleyball - Men’s final Poland vs France
• 9:40: Canoe sprint - Women’s C1 200m finals
• 10:00: Rhythmic gymnastics - Group all-around final
• 11:00: Diving - Men’s 10m platform final
• 11:00: Handball - Women’s gold medal match - Norway vs France
• 11:35: Water polo - Women’s gold medal match Australia vs Spain
• 1:00: Cycling session begins
• 1:15: Volleyball - Women’s bronze medal match Brazil vs Turkey
• 3:00: Athletics session begins
• 5:30: Basketball - Men’s gold medal match USA vs France

How in the world did Netherlands beat USA in the water polo bronze match?! From memory USA were leading 9-6 with about 5 minutes left, wow.

I’m quickly watching a replay of the late stages. Was 10-7 USA with 4 minutes left.

Even now, 2 minutes left and USA up 10-9 with possesssion.

So keen to see this unfold.

I totally agree.

The rhythmic gymnastics is severely underrated. The choreography is unbelievable, the girls and their flexibility and coordination is unreal.
