So what?
We went out and mortgaged our draft hand to get these guys.
For what real benefit?
Darling and Parker been okay, but what has it actually achieved?
The beltings continue. The losses keep coming
And we're playing three blokes right at end of careers. Who'll be gone soon enough
Supposedly their training standards would rub off. How's that going?
As sugar hits go this is like drinking Pepsi Max.
What a WOFTAM

I'd have gone Darling Daniel Parker.

Anywho it doesn't make a difference .

Darling and Parker cost **** all. Which was the right money.

Daniel is a joke and should cost a job or 2 inside Arden St.

Then Goad, Dawson and Whitlock . 3 decent draft picks that one could argue we didn't have the required 4 years to develop them. Or that it was too much to develop them all at the same time

You cannot expect three players to turn the club's fortunes around if the club itself is unwilling to be ruthless. The playing group needed to collectively say 'enough is enough' before Parker, Darling and Daniel walked through the doors. No player coming in will make a difference.

The culture is shit. Weak footy club that is taking advantage of the hard work from people that fought tooth and nail when it was on the brink of relocation by spewing the same 'Shinboner Spirit' or 'Never Beaten'. A spit in the face to actual North people that would be ruthless in it's expectations and performance.

All that hard work to fight, for this. The club is lost and it has lost me.

Essendons 4th round pick 67 for Darling is "mortgaging our draft hand"?

Parker AND Konstanty for pick 44 is
"mortgaging our draft hand"?

We did pay overs for Daniel whom I was bullish about but has let the faith in him down.

Regardless of Daniel, these 4 are not responsible for the actual poor drafting that has happened.

No they are not responsible.
But getting them has achieved precisely nothing and is just another error.

I get why you feel that way but I wouldn't say they ha e achieved nothing.

Before injury Larkey was 7th in the Coleman. 12+ Key Forwards behind him for other teams. 7th isn't great but in the team with the least inside 50s per game, it's notable. This is only because Darling stops him having to deal with the 2:1s he has had to since Ben Brown. Darling has also noticeably improved the leading patterns in the FWD 50.

Parker has had multiple games this year when he has lead the way and shouldered the load. Leading by example is why we have him. Its between the ears of the young fellas to emulate that.

Daniel is polarising. He has been exceptionally frustrating. He can also do some good things though and if anything is showing the young players that if you want the ball, demand the ball. He gets the ball because he demands it. This is good for players like FOS and Kerch. Helps them gain assertiveness.

We all wanted stark, noticeable improvement this year and last night was putrid. The world was never going to turn in the 7 months these guys have been here though. Hopefully we see more next year.

I have been pretty vocal over the past few years I don't agree with the need for veterans. My thoughts have not changed.
Can you show me one good side in even moderately recent history with no veterans? Every good side has them.

I should have said "imported veterans". We have spent 7-8 years bringing in experience, and it is usually our younger players who lead the team. Pendelebury is not a great because he is older, it is because he has the skill and temperment for the game.

The Dee Premiership side in 2021 doesn't happen without imported veterans like Lewis, Vince, Cross IMO. These guys got them out of the doldrums before the likes of May, Lever and some good development of youngsters took them all the way.

That's without even thinking about it too much. Hodge and Birchal at Brisbane is another.

Darling's contribution has been overstated imo.

Granted he's a smart footballer and has been clutch at times, but his lack of athleticism and genuine height for a KPF has hampered him.

A goal a game from his extensive time forward is underwhelming and he has lengthy quiet patches.

Father time has gotten him.

The Eagles knew it.

He isn't perfect, but he's far superior to every other semi-tall footballer on our list who isn't named Nick Larkey.

Daniel is the big outlier- pick 25(2) and he has heaped more pressure on our backline with his exits out of there.
Everyone in the footy community knew this except the brains trust at our club.
He can’t defend , hit a target more than 20 metres away and his decision making is deplorable.

He has to be dropped this week and never seen again

100% this. He may have taken a defender from Larkey but I think he has hampered Larkey more than helped.
He was just ordinary at the Eagles and he has shown why they werent that keen to keep him

What was paid for Darling and Parker (and Konstanty) was never going to impact our future heavily. Those were good trades that even if went poorly, little was outlayed. If they went well, we would look like absolute geniuses. I still think we won them.

The trade that absolutely destroyed the goodwill of the other two was Daniel. Second round draft picks, whilst having a much lower chance of playing AFL footy, should never just be given away. In this case, we overpaid for a known quantity. Any scouting of him at WB would have shown a footballer that wasnt at AFL standard and they knew it. They were happy to keep him as pure depth to bring in to fill a role as required but we went and offered game time with more years and a 2nd for the Dogs.

The only loser out of this trade is North. Overpaid in both draft capital and now we're stuck paying the contract for the next couple of years.

I think some of you are missing the point. Forget that pick 40 odd was used to trade player X. How has the trading in of these 3 guys improved us as a Football Club? :stern look

Sure Parker has been consistent. Darling given us more than I expected but has it moved the needle? :stern look

The worst element of his play is in fast transition on defence & offence. Even our own players leave him in their wake. It’s actually funny watching him run because his feet are moving so fast but he’s going nowhere.

One occasion last night in particular stood out. He started off a forward hand ball chain. He ran his guts out trying to stay involved but pretty quickly got left 10m behind. It was delusional of him to even try to keep up. And this is the kicker, moments later when the ball inevitably came back the other way, you see half the players on the field run past him again.

He is the smallest and slowest player on the field, the epitome of the modern day footballer.

That’s on the rest of the team who have mostly stunk it up

The Parker and Darling acquisitions were fine. They were low cost and we need leadership. The Daniel one is the problem. He's not built for modern football, his deficiencies exacerbate several of our weaknesses, and we handed over a second round pick for him. It was a self-sabotage tier bad trade.
