Fawkner had Parkside covered in my book.

Terry Young, Roach, Warren Hoar, Cohen brothers, etc .........not the most enjoyable afternoon to be honest. All of them gave me some good ones - especially little Cohen who looked like a red headed Johnny Platten - my teeth are still not straight from a lovely little elbow that he timed perfectly. It really was a ripper.

Alot of 'tightness' in hamstrings for memory on Thursday night training when blokes realised it was either of those two teams we would be doing battle with :$:$

As for Ivanhoe - we had a few that on the odd occasion got a little feisty :)

Chump.

On checking the history, that's a bit harsh on a club that rose through the grades each season. Got to C I believe.

The discussion was about fearsome opponents and from my experience they had absolutely no peer in that regard. They were not around long but they sure did make an impact.

There was suggestion that the questionable tactics used on the field extended to off the field and if memory serves me correctly a combination of both led to them getting the boot from the VAFA.

Our team of the century rover (IvanhoeFC) coached St Pius, and his home got robbed by his own players when a club function was on knowing no one would be home!!

Funny except if your from Heidelberg...like me :D

That mofo biscuits from Fawkner stomped on my hand while on the turf while i was lying on the ground. Punching him with the same hand got me sent off in unspeakable agony.... i was never the brightest spark.

As for Parkside, my first game against them as a scrawny 17yo i got headbutted by Jackie King, and had a Wayne Bannister haymaker miss my 3KZ by half a millimetre. Love thy neighbour they did not.

I rest my case. If that’s how they treated one of there own you can get a sense about how they approached games against private school boy clubs from the leafier parts of town!

Yes, its a shame that sides from this side of town have had such a penchant for trouble they ended up folding.

St Pius, Heidelberg Colts (worst of the lot in a ton of peoples opinion) West Ivanhoe, Research, Alphington and Preston MB all now defunct.

Agree 100%. Fawkner had the Red Devils covered. Would beat the suitcase out of you all day and then their lovely mums would offer you a nice home made sausage roll to make you feel better. Pretty sure the men in white were just as intimidated as we were and not many frees got paid!!

Recall one sensational year when we had Fawkner, parkside and thomastown in the one grade. Ouch....

Know nothing of Parksides history, but we played them in round 2 and looks as though that thier history is long behind them.
If they continue on that path, they will be a welcome addition to the VAFA

If you're naming names Big Fella, don't forget to add Bellfield and Keon Park to that list.

Forgot about Bellfield....we groundshared with them for a season in the 90's. Running out in the 2s always rudely disturbing the drugdeals going on in the adjacent playground :D
Didn't know Keon Park had a senior side....what comp were they in? I remember playing against KP stars in juniors though.

Fairfield and Thornbury are 2 more i forgot as well that i have no recollection of.

Terry Young was a brute. Could play as well, but he loved inflicting pain!
Don't remember him with a beard, Hoare the ruckman had one and he was a gun player for them too.

I hated that ground as well....driving down the road towards it with cyclone fencing up everywhere and always a gale blowing through it.

The bearded guy you are thinking of is 'Henry' Lawson. He was the ruckman and hit you whenever he could make you physically pay for being in the area. Guy was a gun player also and won a comp B&F in the early 90's.

Hoarey on the other hand was a 6'2 RR and enjoyed a cheeky shot when the opportunity presented it's self. Again was a very good player - in fact they had a bloody good team as well as one that would 'clip' when they could.

I was actually seeing a young lady who had family connections at Fawkner at the time. This meant I would spend several summer weekends having beers with the guys around the Rosebud area. I found them to be a great group of blokes and we enjoyed a few laughs. Then .......................... footy season came and they would punch the suitcases out of me!!!! I had two tribunal appearances via Fawkner games ..........I got smashed both times!! Sheesh.
