Good read - I'm the President of a sporting club currently and it is a complicated old world!

Bet their President's name is Steve

Unfortunately it's a fact of amateur sporting organisations that they can be hijacked by people with their own agendas and ideas.

And in all seriousness, it wouldn't surprise me if Freo had a little bit to do with it. Remember when the Eagles forced Baulkham Hills to change their name to 'East Coast Eagles' as part of the affiliation agreement? Never mind they were based nowhere near the coast. AFL clubs sometimes demand some strange things, and maybe some plonker in our offices reckons that 'Sydney Dockers' sounds better for us than 'Balmain Dockers'.

AFAIC, if they want a club based on Coogee then set one up there, unless there are reasons why they have to move away from where they are. It's not hard.

I was expecting this to be about the Burnie Dockers...

Does anyone know the actual benefit of sponsoring these clubs? Is it just to get the name out there, or is there some kind of ulterior motive?

Also, why would the Balmain footy club call themselves the Tigers? Wasn't that the name of their dead NRL club? Regardless of the situation, it's something no doubt hijacked by the egos of suburban nobodies who are, as per every ammo club in the world, peddling their ideas for their own reasons. It's very rare that a decent, fair, and genuine person puts their hand up for these jobs.

The rugby league club took its name from the Aussie rules club. As did the North Sydney bears and some others.
This all happened about a century or so ago.

Plenty of fair & reasonable people do, it is not rare. There is always plenty of whingers who expect someone else to do everything though.

Does anyone know wtf happened?

The Balmain club are now the TIGERS again and have dropped a division.

No info on the web?

I understand there may be sensitivities due to allegations flying around last year... but can anyone fill the gap?
