Based on what we saw against the Swans, anything above bottom 4 would have to be considered a pass

I've never had any faith in this coaching or playing group. With the likes of TDK and Curnow gone it's hard to see them making finals. I'm actually predicting bottom 4-6.

Sounds harsh for they should focus on getting their house in order. Voss out asap for a start.

Making finals is a pass mark and min for Voss to keep his job
He is not a good coach and at his 2nd chance still a failure

Sooner the blues move him on the quicker they can get on with the rebuild/refresh they desperately need
Currently they have a team that's potential is 6-13 range that wont do anything and talent they have will diminish

I think they'd be wondering whether a first time or experienced coach is the way to go next time. Considering they tried to poach McRae last year its experienced for the time being

Well Ive been to most open training sessions and if the team is able to intercept in defence like it has been past five years and midfield is brutal in the contest past six years.... adding, Jagga, Walsh (he is on fire), Elijah Hollands (hardly played a game last season), Hayward and Ainsworth on the outside has turned this team's fortunes forward of center on its head. I have never seen H, Walsh, Cerra, Saad, Williams (off half back), this sharp in 2-3 years

I have to admit, I'm starting to lose faith.

So after 3 games, "First Half Carlton" is 3-0, with smashing victories over Sydney (away), Richmond and Melbourne. "First Half Carlton" has an all-time great defence, conceding only 44 ppg (full games), which is a country mile ahead of the next best team in the league (Gold Coast, conceding 67 ppg). "First Half Carlton" is also solid offensively, scoring 91ppg, which is 10th in the league.

The combination of an all-time great defensive unit and a mid-tier attack has provided "First Half Carlton" with a 3-0 record with a % of 201, which comfortably on top of the ladder. Gold Coast and the Bulldogs have played a tougher schedule, so can claim bragging rights but "First Half Carlton" are right up there and well cemented in the top 4.

Unfortunately, "Second Half Carlton" is arguably the worst team ever to play in the AFL. How bad? Defensively, "Second Half Carlton" is conceding 148 points in every full (4 quarter game), which is more than 5 goals worse than the next worst team in the league (Essendon, conceding 119ppg). Worse, it is the highest ever PPG against in the history of the league, narrowly edging out 1993 Sydney, who conceded 145ppg across the season. "Second Half Carlton" also has the lowest scoring rate of any team in the competition, at 56ppg, which is actually only slightly worse than the next worst (Richmond = 58ppg).

However, the combination of a historically bad defensive unit and the worst scoring record in the league means that "Second Half Carlton" has a % of 38%, which is NOT the worst of all time (that record is held by 1899 St Kilda, with 23%).

In fact, St Kilda from 1898-1902 have the 5 lowest % scores ever. But... sitting in 6th place, is "Second Half Carlton". Outside of that foundation St Kilda team, the next worst team ever was 1919 Melbourne (42%), but they get a free pass because of the war. If you want a more modern comparison, "Second Half Carlton" are roughly on par with 1955 St Kilda, or (interestingly), GWS's inaugural team who finished last with a % of 46%.

Quality post.

Good research and data comparisons.

Five stars.

Apparently Jagga Smith is the latest saviour to take the rest of the list and club to the promised land with immediate effect. Because, you know, top 3 pick.

We've all seen this before. The Carlton messiah complex.

Only this time its a 0 game player coming of an ACL.

No pressure kid. The Carlton fans are patient especially with no flags in 30+ years.
It wasn't long ago when Brian Cook was the messiah who was going to fix everything, only for Cook to retire when Carlton were 2.5 years through Cook's 5 year plan.
