Collingwood got smacked in the same fixture last year.

They’ll be fine. Top 6.
They'll need to be better than at least one of...

Brisbane
Suns
GWS
Sydney
Bulldogs
Adelaide
Geelong
Freo

...just to finish top 8, let alone top 6.

I'm not sold on Hawthorn to be honest.

They always gave me vibes of a team that crept up on the comp and nearly pinched it.

I fear that they missed their shot.

We are 2 midfielders short. And need to play some of our weapons in positions which suit the team. Weddle should be on a wing not plugging holes and we need more pace across the ground. Way too tall down back 1 of either Sicily or Scrimshaw shouldn't be in the team even though both are solid, it's a team balance thing. Mitchell is reluctant to make too many changes the past 2 years, he has he's favourites and some of those favourites should be under more scrutiny than they are.

I think their supporters would probably consider a similar finish to 2024 (credible SF loss) as a pass. I think thay have a bit of complacency about them that no other supporter base has (I'm certainly not saying that this also applies to the players).

When you think about it, every Hawthorn supporter aged from say from 18-80s has seen regular premierships - at a wild guess I'd say at an average of about 1.5 per decade or better. And beyond that, I can't remember an extended period where Hawthorn was seriously good, but failed to win a flag. So I think if they go out in straight sets, or win an elimination final and lose a semi final, there'll still be the attitude of "Oh well, we'll still win at least one with this group." They don't have the "now or never" attitude that, for example a Fremantle, or GWS, or Sydney supporter would have. And that's completely unique to Hawthorn supporters, IMHO. The Hawks aren't immune from being shit, but they have been immune from failing to capitalise when they've been good.

Not reading anything into Rd 1.

I said the exact same thing last season.

Fans and Melbourne media want to root them but unless Will Day pulls off a Superman act their midfield is just not going to get them to the promised land. Just bog ordinary midfield. Not sure anything has changed since last year.

6-8.

You would think at least Freo, Gold Coast, Sydney & Western Bulldogs will be better than us out of teams that didn’t finish top 4 last year.

We were 8th before the finals started last year don’t forget.

It's round 0

The real stuff officially starts next week. If Hawthorn lose the Zach Merrett cup against Essendon next week, heads will roll. And Sam Mitchell might get sacked before Vossy does at Carlton!

We are in the lower to mid table for age profile. It could be a slow burn towards our next flag where we are thereabouts for a little while before it all clicks. We do still have time on our side but we will need to find a consistent key forward once Gunston retires. Should be Dear once he gets the consistency and builds his strength to compete week after week. Many of us think we are at least 2 years away from really challenging and that the past 2 years have happened ahead of time and with a list that isn't complete. Based on what I've seen so far we are a 6-10th team around that sort of mark. Similar to the past 2 years. Treading water until we find the players we need to challenge for flags.

Sure.

But it's a Hawthorn thread yes?

Or do you think we are all here to listen to your general words of wisdom about the universe?
Would you like to speak to a manager?

Sicily and Scrimshaw were arguably our two best players yesterday...

I dont worry what round it is.

Sam is an excellent coach.

The midfield is a worry.

Everything rests on Will Day.
