After winning 1 game in 2025 what should a pass mark for West Coast be in 2026? Many people predicted Richmond to go winless in 2025 and they surprised everyone by winning 5 games so should West Coast be aiming for something similar? They have the potential to surprise a few teams this year who make the mistake of taking them lightly especially if Harley Reid begins to hit his straps and has a breakout year he signed a contract extension recently which should take a lot of weight off his shoulders and allow him to focus on playing footy.

Surely must be looking to get 7 wins after a very disappointing 2025 with only just 1 win for an entire season
another bottom 2 finish would devastate the supporter base after 5 years
The list is diabolical.

I actually think Tom McCarthy is their best player. Should win the B and F.

4 to 6 wins. finish above Richmond. Improvement to come from the kids and not the seniors.

Agreed, I reckon the growth may surprise a few.

I’d be happy with anything over 6 wins. Most pumped I’ve been for a season in a long time – very exciting young list we’re putting together.

Well if that's the case it's going to be embarrassing for the 5 teams who lose to them in 2026.

5 to 6 wins is a pass mark.

They ran out games much better in 2025 and have added to the midfield depth through trades and development.

Defense looks pretty solid and with depth.

Waterman looks primed and if he can stay on rhe Park will provide some experience in the F50.

Starting to build a nice batch of talented kids. Just need time and opportunity.

Teams that turn up thinking easy kill will be found out.

4 wins & avoid the spoon

*A bonus would be to have <5 losses by more than 50 pts
This is the most realistic I feel. Others saying 7 wins which is insane imo given where the Eagles are coming from.

Would it really surprise anyone if it's a 2 win season and McQualter is sacked before the end of it either?

From what was our best side at the end of the year, we have the below

Brandon Starcevich replacing Tom Cole
Willem Duursma replacing Clay Hall
Jake Waterman replacing Liam Ryan
Tylar Young replacing Sandy Brock
Elliot Yeo replacing Tim Kelly
Hamish Davis replacing Matt Owies
Bo Allan replacing Campbell Chesser

So in general we have gotten better. The ruck rules will help no one more in the AFL then Bailey Williams so confident our ruck work improves a fair bit. Shanahan/H.Reid/Davis/A.Reid are 4 players who were desperately short of a extra pre season last year so they should improve a fair bit, especially H.Reid and Davis. Thereafter we will have Tom McCarthy in the midfield too which so far in pre season is looking a good move. A bit Chad Warner like in there with his movement out of congestion.

Best team likely of

FB: Hough, Edwards, Ginbey
HB: Baker, Young, Starcrevich
C: Duursma, H.Reid, Davis
HF: Cripps, Waterman, Graham
FF: CDT, Shanahan, Brockman
R: B.Williams, Yeo, McCarthy
I/C: Duggan, Hewett, Allan, Maric, Schoenberg

As someone who nailed us getting 1-3 wins last year im thinking 6-8 this year. Along with the ruck rules favoring us so does the change with the sub rule. We have a great way to get a extra 2 bodies into the midfield in the rotation than others have by chucking CDT and Maric into the midfield mix who are KPP size and can fill those roles too. We are also going into next year with 1 starting mid from last year in Harley Reid and a complete new guard around him too which is a big change.

Has West Coast historically sacked coaches after two years?

No it hasn't.

They are a big club who know there are no short cuts for any club outside of Victoria and not being an AFL love child expansion side.

Especially after running a root holding onto ex premiership players for too long and not rebuilding earlier.

So you think West Coast would keep an unproven coach with B2B 1 and 2 win seasons in my hypothetical?? Incredible. That would seem stupidly stubborn imo.

West Coast wont sack Mini after just 2 years of being appointed to the worst team in the league that has had players leaving since he entered. They know exactly how bad the list is after 4 years of a failed rebuild and finally are clearing the rubbish and most likely another 87/ players this year and 5 in 2027.

Mini will be the coach for another 3 years minimum and they will assess things after 2028 season

Stupid is hiring and sacking a coach in 2 years.

Especially one brought in to rebuild from ground zero.

The Eagles are not Carlton or Essendon.

A bit early to say but hoping for 12th-16th placed finish depending on how things turn out.
Not sure on the wins or losses but have to assume with all our ins, especially defensively, we will improve on last year.
I think it's a bit premature to assume this year will be the same as last year, Minis system is good and we saw in parts how damaging it could be in some games last year. I feel like we always fell away when we tried to counter another team instead of playing our way and trusting the system.

4 wins and I think he should survive to coach in 2027 but 2 only would be asking a lot. I can't think of any coaches who have survived and been successful after 3 wins in their first two seasons. Maybe I'm wrong and there has been an example of that?
