Thought I'd bring up something interesting as it is vaguely brought up in different threads. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to;

• Name your favourite player
• Name the players who you believe dont deserve to be on the list
• Name the players who aren't being given a fair go
• The 'spoilt' players (players being given too much of an opportunity)
• Who you believe will rise this season and cement their spots (OTHER THEN PENDLES!)

Leon is very exciting once every five weeks, but that's about all.

Maybe Lonie, Collingwood should play him on the wing or up forward.

To much of an oppurtunity meaning not dropping them from the squad or not delisting them when they should have been.

Burns will play off the bench, just had a look at his stats and I must say he is so under-rated!

Guy Richards.... he is crap, he has been on the list since 2000 and what has he done.. Can never hit a target! Ben Davies is also on his last legs... lets face it, he will never be a top class midfielder and plays too safe!!

Most players have had a reasonable run... I would just like to see the likes of Cook, Anthony and Stanley get a game this year! Please dont turn out to be complete duds!!!

Nathan Brown, i know its early but from what i have seen, he will become our general in defence for the next decade... reminds me very much of a young Justin Leppitsch. I also hope Rusling learns the art of taking a contested mark!

Guy Richards, unless he has a super season. I know this may be extremely harsh but Alan Toovey does not look like an AFL footballer!

Hopefully with premiership medallions around their necks!

How's Guy Richards not being given a fair go? He's been on the list for 7 years and plays in the seniors, but to no prevail. On the injury front, he copped an unlucky run, which could be done and dusted.

As for the question, I can't think of one player.

Like to get behind the young kids, Nathan Brown is my intern this year, to go with Sean Rusling and Dane Swan in my development squad.

• Name the players who you believe dont deserve to be on the list

None - I prefer to show faith in all our list for the upcoming season, I can tell you this at the end of the year though. I am worried about the following though - Rhyce Shaw, Ben Davies, Chris Bryan, Harry O'Brien and Danny Stanley - think they are the most limited on our list and need to have big seasons to stick about

Think selection policy has improved a lot better than recent years and our kids are getting fair goes. Wakelin might have been underused a touch

Rocca and Lockyer were probably dissapointing of the senior players at times and held their spot through being around for a while

• Name the players who aren't being given a fair go: Well I would have said Jason Cloke but he is already gone. I will have to see progress during the year and see what happens. Would love to see Ryan Cook get a good solid go as well. Rhyce Shaw - hpe he gets more game time this year!!

• The 'spoilt' players (players being given too much of an opportunity): Sean Rusling - I know Ill get hammered for this one, but I think he is going to be a player we will play to much and we wont get results. Ryan Lonie - needs to do better with his time on the field.

• Who will be delisted: Guy Richards, Danny Nicholls(only if he dont get a decent go) Shane Wakelin

  Guy Richards - It was 3 years ago when he finally showed form...then he became an injury prone ruckman once more, and he, personally doesn't deserve to be on the list for 7 seasons.

  Shane Wakelin - He was a top 3 finish in the Best and Fairest in 2005, and then in 2006 he was forced out of the side on numerous occassions due to team balance.
  
  Shane O'Bree/Tarkyn Lockyer - This is towards BigFooty users and Collingwood supporters, not the coach. O'Bree might not be a talented on-baller, however he has performed at a high level over the past few years. Lockyer on the other hand was a short-list for the AA side before Round 15 and Jeff Farmer...the most under-rated season by a Collingwood footballer ever!!!

  Ryan Lonie - He has great natural ability and can be a fantastic player, but too many times he has been a 'love child' and been supported by Mick, and continues to play at senior level when probably not deserving.

  Chris Egan - Can hopefully prove his best this season after two valuable developing years. He needs to cement a spot because he lacks performance at VFL and his best is shown at the higher level.
  
  Harry O'Brien - Has the ability to keep his feet in contests not many usually do. Has been at the club a couple of years now, both listed as a rookie then promoted. Now elevated, big things are expected and O'Brien will be a senior player in 2007.

  Ben Davies - Too hard to break through into the side and hold his spot as shown. He has determination, but the lack of skills are easily spotted, and this season is really a make or break season...and I can only see it going one way
  
  Danny Stanley - Despite the words that he will be a 150 plus game player, he is too slow and someone needs to go
  
  Ryan Cook - Too much depth in small forwards, and his pre-season has to be good, and so far hasn't done enough to convince me that he will breakthrough this year.

  Nathan Buckley will play more as a forward, as he has put more buff on, but that doesn't exclude a midfield option. Will captain the side for his last year, but will play on in 2008.
  
  Scott Burns could easily see 2008 also. Last year he was one of the biggest impact players in the league, and can do the same this year. His ability to find the ball in the middle is amazing, and to get 20 odd touches a game in 80 minutes is what we will see once more.

I think for the first time in a while we have no outstanding deadwood. However I don't think Davies will be able to do enough to stay on the list. IMO there is noone on the list that doesn't deserve to be on a or any list for that matter.

NOTE: Richards is probably the least deserving but his circumstances (injury) and our circumstance (lack of ruck depth) we kinda need him.

No one by the coaching staff, although I don't think Yakka was given much of a chance and O'Brien could of played more games. By the Collingwood supporters Lonie is not given a fair go when he improved many sides to his game last year however everyone is just looking for him to stuff up.
Also Stanley has been written off a bit too early from some. And recently Rusling has copped a lot of flack. FACT: Young players are inconsistant. FACT: Full forwards are incosistant.

I think Davies will. Going through the list Cox, Davies, Richards, Stanley, Nicholls (2nd year rookie) all have to have good seasons or for the younger players show a fair bit to stay on the list. Lonie will have to have another good season, along with Lockyer, Licuria, Davis and Wakelin who need good seasons or they will either be delisted, trade bait or forced to retire early.

* And finally, how will Burns and Buckley go
I think Burns will go pretty good but I still think this will be his last year regardless of how he goes. Buckley is Nathan Buckley so he will be Nathan Buckley and barring serious injury he will go again in 2008.

Yep thats right.

Really Egan has not excited me one bit. sure he has kicked a couple of great goals, however, his work ethic to really find the ball and get into areas, by reading the game, needs to improve and with ******** and Medhurst, Egan I believe, needs to improve.

Does a player who is on the list but hasn't played a game mean that you can't pick them as your favourite player? My favourite type of players are running wingmen aka Ricky Barham,and players who take on the opposition and run the lines, Dipper. JA has shown the ability to take on the opposition, he is also a great role model for young kids, hence my Nephew and Niece were so excited when they met him and he took the time to have some fun with the kids and have a chat. This to me is just as important as playing the game. He really has impressed me.

Martin Clarke is from Nth Ireland, my best friend is from there and she has all of a sudden become really interested in Collingwood and I have decided to join the band wagon.

I'd probably have to say Ben Davies, and this is Guy Richards last chance this year.

I think Jason Cloke wasn't given a fair go.
On the current list.. I'd probably have to say Ryan Lonie, in a sense that he should be given a more free-attacking role.

I've had a few other the years. But this year, I havent seen anyone on our list that is spoilt.

Heath Shaw; Pretty much cemented. But needs to have another consistent season to prove that last year wasnt a one off.

Travis Cloke; His year to shine and become the top big man at the CFC, the forward defenders will start having problems covering.

Leon Davis; We all saw the glimpses, we all know the potential. I think, injury-free, Magic will become an integral part of our starting 18. The spark when we're down.

Nathan Brown; His body indicates he is ready. Hopefully he is mentally ready and confident enough. Forget backline. This guy will be playing 5-10games at CHF and 5-10games at CHB. Big year, experimental-wise, for NB #3.

Ryan Cook; Alot of people seem to forget that RC was a 2nd round selection in the 2005 draft. With Thomas and Pendles taking all the limelight, this kid has been given privacy to improve and develop. Hopefully this is the year he shows what he is capable off.

Who will be delisted
With the recruiting or Brown and Reid, and further developments of O'Brien and Anthony, Wakelin will find this year as his last for the CFC.
Burns MIGHT retire but I hope he hangs around for one more. I want him carried off alongside the champ, Bucks.
Ben Davies will be delisted. And so will Richards.
We will pick up a ruckman in next years draft. MAYBE even in the PSD with one from another club.
And Bryan will prove himself as a ruckman for Collingwood.
There will possibly be another 1 or 2 delistings. Ones we wont be able to see coming from now.

And finally, how will Burns and Buckley go
You can all disagree. But Buckley will be playing as much in the midfield this year as he will in the forward line. He NEVER shrieks at any challenge. And EVERYONE should know, Nathan Buckley will never agree to just settle in the forward line. He will get his breaks to rest, but he will be a midfielder/forward. Not just a forward. Will even have stints at HBF.

Burns will do what Burns always does. No need to comment. Gavin Brown would be proud of the courage and commitment Scott Burns shows week in week out. An absolute champion of the Collingwood FC in the last 15-20 years.

Name the players who you believe dont deserve to be on the list - Hmmm those that abuse their position and party it up the wall. Leon Davis is a great player but not consistent enough but I don't know if I want to see him dropped.

Jason Cloke, he tried his guts out week in and out and didnt get much of a go. I remember one game where he played really well and I decided to make a bold statement and say he'd be dropped the following week... he was. Ryan lonie is getting back out there but was given a rough trot at the start.

The 'spoilt' players (players being given too much of an opportunity) Paul Licuria. Lica is a gun, i'm not disputing that, but I don't think Mick should have said that as long as he's breathing he'll be given a spot in the side. Doesn't send a good message to the other players. They all have to earn their spot.

Harry O'Brien - Soooo glad he's finally been put on the senior list.
Sean Rusling - I hope he gets a good opportunity this year and really has a good go of it.


Who will be delisted -
will have to wait till 2007 is played out but there a few who I think have had their day... Shane O'Bree.

And finally, how will Burns and Buckley go -
Can we learn how to given them some sort of special powers to keep them going forever! i just wish them both a successful, injury free year!
