Past Champions who don't get mentioned enough in the media

I feel like Buddha Hocking barely gets mentioned for a 4x All Australian, club record 4x BnF, consistent Brownlow placer, AFL HoF, Club Captain and Geelong Team of the Century.

Probably like most Cats of the 80s-90s; over shadowed by Ablett and a missing a flag to elivate them all that next step in the eyes of the general football fan.
That whole Whiskers thing confused a generation...

Living in Albury. Has been kicked out of three golf clubs there because of cheating and confrontations with other members.

Appears he’s a genuine spanner
On top of the two AFL clubs he got kicked out of, i wonder if Aker sometimes thinks that with all these ruckus whether just possibly, he is the common denominator

Terry Wallace. I only remember the last of his playing career, but after watching his induction into the HOF, he seemed like a super player. Maybe because his career was spilt between clubs he gets glossed over.
Won 2 B&Fs in his first two years with us.
One of the great inside midfielders, tough boy.

Brian Royal. Played for Victoria 7 times in an era where competition for spots was fierce. Finished on the unfortunate stats of 199 games and 299 goals.

From an outsider's perspective, Chris McDermott. For a time he just seemed the heart and soul of the Crows.

Graham Moss - 338 games, (plus 223 games as a coach), 7-time B&F, Brownlow medalist, 1 Premiership
Peter Featherby - 374 games, 3 B&F, 3 Premierships
Graham Melrose - 334 games, Sandover Mentalist, 1 Premiership

The Embley, Stenglein, Braun support crew was pretty handy as well. Right up with the best midfields over the past 30 years.

Fletcher too, even made All Australian one year.

That midfield feeding it to our current forward line and backed by our current back line would be unstoppable.

Dean Cox tapping it down to Ben Cousins, Chris Judd and Daniel Kerr.

Man we wasted that once-in-a-lifetime centre square combination. Only one flag in the end.

Forward line as named in the 2006 GF:

HF: Chick Hansen Stenglein
F: Fletcher Lynch R Jones

I don't think there's a worse named forward line in a premiership winning side.

Goal kickers for the day:

3 Lynch
2 Embley, Hansen, Cousins
1 Judd, Armstrong, Hunter

Compare that to 2018:

HF: Hutchings Darling LeCras
F: Rioli Kennedy Cripps

Hutchings spent the game tagging Sidebottom but that's as named. You've got a multiple Coleman Medal winning FF, a CHF in career best form who early in the season was the form player in the comp, a former AA calibre half forward in LeCras, a hard working HF in Cripps who kicked 38 for the year and a couple of creative smalls in Rioli and Ryan in the side.

2006 side kicked 375 goals in 26 games. Lynch 65 and and the only other player over 30 was Embley (mid/forward) with 31.
2018 side kicked 336 in 25. Darling 48, Kennedy 43 (in 14), Cripps 38, LeCras 32, Rioli 28, Ryan 20 (in 13).

Completely different spread of avenues to goal. Yeo was the best mid with 14, the 06 side had 3 mids with 20+ and the CHB with 29.

Roger Hayden was an absolute gun, but most eastern staters didn't rate him that highly.

Brian Royal. Played for Victoria 7 times in an era where competition for spots was fierce. Finished on the unfortunate stats of 199 games and 299 goals.

There was a number of years of Royal's career where Victoria had 2-3 teams of representatives playing against different states. Not denying Royal's ability, just pointing out that wearing the Big V didn't neccesarily mean you among the top 21 Victorian players at the time.

Roger Hayden was an absolute gun, but most eastern staters didn't rate him that highly.

Pretty good player but let's not get carried away. He's a guy that came 5th in a club B&F once and had a few injury affected seasons. He was silky, but in terms of best Freo players and highest profile Freo players would he be top 10 or 20 in either?

Luke McPharlin on the other hand would've been a multiple AA key defender if not for playing in the same era as Scarlett and Glass. When was the last time was mentioned in the media?
