DOB: 13/3/55

Height: 180 cms
Weight: 80 Kgs

Debut: Round 7 1973 V Geelong

Games: 202
Goals: 135

Recruited From: Drouin

A long kicking wingman he was the first of the Ablett to establish himself as a VFL star. He was one of the fastest players during his era, winning the grand final sprint 3 years in a row. A knee injury in his first year set him back but upon his return he made an immediate impact, initially as a long kicking centerman but then as a free flowing wingman. He played in the 1976 & 78 premiership teams and was an important part of both teams. At the end of 1982 he had a dispute with the club and sought a clearance to Richmond which was eventually given. Ablett had a bad run with injuries whilst at Richmond and ended up having a year at St Kilda at the end of his career.

Where is he now? Ablett is the mayor of City of Casey

The original racehorse. My kid came back from school asking me who wore number 2 for the Hawks when I was young. I said Geoff Ablett of course. It turns out she and other school leaders were hanging out with the Mayor and talking about the Hawks of course ! :)

If he wasn't playing in it, then he'd always win the half-time sprint come Grand Final Day!....Very much underated footballer & often in our top half dozen best players throughout the 70's.

The most tragic part of his departure at the end of 1982 was that his 2 younger brothers in Kevin & Gary followed him out the door.....We're still paying the price for that one Big time!

Met him a few months ago at my Girlfriends citizenship ceremony, presented her with the certificate, took some photos and had a chat. He was really great, you could tell that as the Mayor he really was honored to be welcoming all the new citizens and was really happy for them.
