Jay Nash was a medium size midfielder/defender from South Australia. Having played for Nuriootpa in the Barossa in his junior days, he went to play for the all-conquering Central Districts in the SANFL, where he was spotted by Essendon and picked up in the 2003 draft. After an earlier-than-expected debut in 2005 playing on Nathan Buckley, Nash slowly pushed his way into the first 22, playing seven matches in 2006 and eleven in a 2007 that was hampered by a foot injury.
But while these two years were full of promise thanks to some good skills, his 2008 was more disappointing, as, despite playing all but one game for the year, he was shown to have defensive deficiencies. This was, perhaps, what was to cost him the following year, in which he only played two games. Frustrated with not breaking into the firsts, he was traded to Port Adelaide at the end of 2009 (as part of the Mark Williams deal), where he lasted on more season. He has since returned to play for Central Districts, where he won a premiership in 2010, as well as Nuriootpa.
