DOB: 15/7/62

Height: 192 cms
Weight: 89 kgs

Games: 109
Goals: 196

Recruited From: Canterbury

Debut: Round 5 1983 V Collingwood

An exciting high-flyer, Curran was a local boy made good. He found his feet in 1984, playing on the half forward line and kicking goals regularly.

He played in the losing 1984 Grand Final side, but missed 1985, instead taking part in the reserves Premiership. He consolidated his spot in the side thereafter, winning a flag in 1986 and then playing in another losing Grand Final side in 1987.

He suffered a broken leg at the height of his powers in 1988. He missed being a part of the premiership team of that year, and was the man whom Dermott Brereton sprinted over to console before the start of the match.

Curran returned triumphantly in 1989, kicking three goals in a key contribution to the famous win over Geelong in the Grand Final.

Injuries cut short his time at Hawthorn, and he ended his AFL career with an unsuccessful stay in Brisbane.

Where is he now? School Teacher and Head of Football at Wesley College

Was a favourite. Super courageous running with the flight, and took some lovely marks.

His first qtr in the 86 GF was huge.

Terrific bloke too, came down for a night to coach my footy team in the amos back in 1989 the week before our grand final. We won, and then when the Hawks won that famous GF, I saw him after the game and he was genuinely stoked when I told him we'd won the flag also. Could have excused him for not giving a stuff right then, but he wanted to know all about it. Great bloke.

I loved him as a player.

Took a good grab and was fearless in his attack on the footy.

Like Tony Hall, was robbed of his prime.

Loved Peter Curran when I was a kid. Good mark and shot at goal. Played 2 pretty good GF's in 86 and 89. He is bigger than I remember him being.

Curran was a terrific one-grab mark of the ball, i will never forget him kicking 5 goals in the last qtr against Carlton r18 1984 at princes park, to turn a 15 point deficit early in the last qtr, into a runaway 32 point win!

I made the unpopular call in a different thread that for mine, he never fulfilled what I thought he should have achieved. I respect the injuries and such, he had such sticky hands, knew how to kick a goal, but I just felt he was an inconsistent player.
Went missing, then would have a great 2-3 weeks, I would think he was taking off, and then he'd give you a 3 mark / 5 kick game.
I didn't get it. I wanted to love the guy so much......

Would have been rated a lot higher if he didn't have Dunstall, Brereton and Bucky around him. Very talented and was a great foil for the other guys.

Shame we didn't see the best of him
