Did he confirm or deny the Tony Polinelli smoking pipe story?

Duck, Lethal, EJ and Ablett Sr.

The so called top 4 players in VFL/AFL history.

Lethal aside, the least morally well off players in league history.

Liam Jurrah hacked up a cousin with a machete. Fabrian Francis beat up his wife.
Justin Murphy burned his wife and she had to have a finger amputated
Nick Stevens assaulted an ex-partner
David Dench was jailed for inappropriate financial dealings
Rhett Baynes was involved in robbery
Ron De Iulio was found to be a drug dealer

Plenty of other examples...

Let's not get too carried away.

I think Wayne Carey is one of the most morally bankrupt people the AFL has ever seen though.

They're only some of them too. There would be many, many more that have been covered up.

Jesse Stringer was another while he was playing for us.

John Nicholls was another , champion ruckman at Carlton , and his contest/matches opposed to G Farmer were legendary

But he actually spent time in Pentridge , back in the early 60s they didnt muck around , if you broke the law then there was a fair chance you ended up in jail, i think it was the old ES and A Bank ,and he embezzled in the thousands of pounds while working their

The other interesting thing about Nicholls was he ended up Capt/coach of Carlton and they were a powerhouse at the time , 1st year 72 , flag , 73 GF - next 2 years high up on the ladder

Then in 76 ,as non playing coach in the last week before the 1st game of the season he sensationally quit , he cited burnout but they were working off the field at the time , and interestingly the following 2 years he coached Glenelg , and i know for a fact in 81 when Sheedy got the Ess coaching job , Nichols was 1 of the applicants

I was told at that time by professionally qualified person , a responsible type , and he gave a bit of detail why Nicholls sensationally quit , but im not prepared to post that

People who are morally bankrupt are those who are unable to change or learn from anything they’ve done wrong.

As heinous as Ablett’s effort was, it wasn’t like a) he intended to kill someone. He wasn’t deliberately having an affair, he wasn’t deliberately whacking someone, he wasn’t deliberately domestically abusing a spouse. He WAS doing something morally wrong. Agreed. And it was irresponsible. But the bad consequence was an ‘accident’ not a part of something evil like say a domestic abuser killing his spouse. b) he has continued to live that life in the ensuing time. He has cleaned himself up. Carey has seemingly lurched from one moral disaster to another. Matthews hasn’t, Ablett seems to have tidied up his life. Cousins has fixed up his life etc.

Being a bad person for one part of your life doesn’t condemn you to staying that way. Sadly, making changes also doesn’t undo your mistakes either and for poor Alecia Horan she doesn’t get a second chance :(
But GAS can at least make sure he doesn’t make the same mistakes and maybe have a positive impact on other people

I agree with that, but also don't forget the assault charge for punching his ex-wife's new partner in the head.

Also there was an accusation from back in his Hawthorn days, but that appears to have gone nowhere.
