Apologies if there is another thread on the topic.

But Pat Cummins is likely to lineup for the Scorchers on friday night against the Sixers.

Baby steps and all.

But what was overlooked during the Ashes is just how many of our young quicks were injured and we still have in the sheds for the coming years. We've heard the intention of Harris and the like to play on to 2015, but (touch wood) hopefully Cummins and Pattinson are major players in that series.

There are a few doubters out there, which prompted me to ask Damien Flemming at a boxing day breakfast at the MCC about him. He said he did a bit of work with him at the COE in Brisbane, he flat out described him as possibly our most talented young bowler of all time, certainly in the time since the pathways were created. He said he can do absolutely everything with a cricket ball, move it both ways, cuts it, and he has the pace and bounce of Curtly Ambrose. He said injury permitting he will become the #1 bowler in the world......

Thought I'd share it, and lets hope he can get some overs in, in the BBL and finish the season off in the shield.

High praise from Flem.

I just hope Cummins can get himself right again. Then it's baby steps from there. Bowl spells, hopefully pull up well, recovery time, and hopefully the wickets will look after themselves.

Gee, that's good way to put pressure on the kid. Fleming makes him sound like the bowling equivalent of the next Bradman.

Will never play another Test match again.

He'll become a quality short form specialist like Brett Lee late in his career but if Cricket Australia's stupid management program is put in place then he will never develop the bowling fitness required for long form Cricket.

Fleming said the same stuff on 3aw the other day; basically that he's the most talented young bowler he's ever seen by so far it's ridiculous.

If that's what Flem genuinely thinks I guess he's entitled to say it. Especially now being a member of the media.

I think it was Lillee who made the very early call on Johnson, and until now we probably thought he'd got it at least slightly wrong. However...

lol

Are you aware how many overs Pat Cummins has bowled to this point in his career compared to say, Glenn McGrath?

You don't know -anything-

Fast bowlers are like ruckman in that they take years to reach their potential. We may not see the best of Pat Cummins for another 4-5 years but to do what he did in South Africa on debut was nothing short of unbelievable. He was a 19 year old kid, bowling the ball 140kph+ and swinging it around.

I'll back Flemings judgement as he would've seen and coached dozens of young quicks over the years. Cummins looks a special talent and lets just hope he's given the time to get his body 100% ready before he gets thrown back into international cricket.

That is a massive call, so hopefully CA take their sweet time getting him right this time.

He's what, 20? Young fast bowlers breaking down is nothing new. He'll be back in the team as we transition on from Harris/siddle/Johnson. No need to rush him.

Coulter-Nile and Cummins in? Is Nathan going to play as an all-rounder (if such thing exists in this game)?

pretty sure NCN batted at 7 last game when they went in with 6 batsmen last time (including Mitch Marsh and Whiteman)

Problem with this now is that they've got a surplus of bowlers and lack another gun bat

He did get a 5fa in South Africa on his test debut. Not a bad way to start off. But if he can get over his injuries, he can easily become a top 5 bowler in a short period of time.

What has that got to do with anything imbecile. McGrath had a compact action with very little strain on his body, Cummins is all over the shop and has a very strenuous action which does not suit Test match bowling. He has played what 4-5 FC games? And if CA have their way he won't play another FC match for another 2-3 years (which was my entire point).

Plus at least McGrath was actually bowling somewhere at the same stage in his career (Club Cricket). Cummins has basically not bowled a ball in anger for years.

I hope I'm wrong but can't see him every gaining Test match fitness without bowling long spells. A guy like Courtney Walsh has always said that you can't become a test match bowler by not bowling test match length spells beforehand and if CA limit his bowling to nothing but T20 or OD Cricket then he never will.

Golly, you're right. Bowling has nothing to do with what we're talking about. More to it, what relevance does Cummins having bowled more deliveries to this point in his life than nearly any quick before him have to do with anything when his actual workload is magicked away with the words "Cummins has not bowled a single ball in years" from someone named - wait for it - Showbags, on an internet forum.

If you walked into the Centre of Excellence tomorrow saying the things you're saying here, do you have any idea how stupid you would be made to feel? Do you have any idea how ignorant you are and how inflated your sense of understanding of this cricketer's situation is?

I repeat, you don't know -anything-
