Just wondering what has happened to McCarthy - is he injured? Haven't heard much about him in the pre-season, and he hasn't been named in the NAB Cup squad. Have I missed something?

Pretty sure he's been in the rehab group for most, if not all of the preseason campaign.

It's a shame as he was one I would have loved to see out there on Saturday night but there's no point risking him.

Let him work his way back to full fitness and play in the Ants for most of the season. If his form warrants it he may get a taste of senior footy late in the season but I'm not expecting much from him in terms of senior footy in 2011.

Thanks for the info Jeremais. It's hard to tell when the injury list released to the public is all smoke & mirrors! Was really interested to see if he was a Paul Bower type mould, or more of a traditional stopper.

No problems.

I haven't seen him play but those that have tend to agree that he's not yet ready to be a key position defender. At this stage he's more suited to a 3rd tall who can run off his man. That's not to say that he won't develop into a key defender in time, but he's not there just yet.

More like Waite in playing style and a pretty good all round defender when he plays there. Is quite versatile, has also played ruck, wing and forward. He is a bit more of a marking, rebounding type than an out and out stopper.

Cheers Sin City. Would love another Waite type in the team. Just couldn't see us playing both McCarthy & Bower from what I had heard about him. Hopefully he gets a chance this season to show what he is made of, and Bower recaptures the form that should have resulted in AA, before injury took hold.

To be honest i didn't expect him to play NAB Cup even if he was fit and firing. The guy is a beanpole to say the least. A hardened body like Leigh Brown would crunch him.

Get the boy in the gym for the next 1-2 years along with some VFL footy then see what he's made out of :thumbsu:

I am all about giving the kids some VFL time, but surely the NAB cup is a chance to test them - even if you line them up in the back pocket. Hopefully a full season in the Ants will give him a chance to put on some bulk & get over niggling injuries :)

I can assure you that he is going to be a big unit, he certainly has a great frame for a modern day KPD.

Will he get games during the year? I already think Watson will get at least dozen games/
