You seem to be under the strange misapprehension that clearances and working inside are the same thing.

You might want to read the fine print.

Mitchell "wins" most of his "clearances" as a receiver and is much lower on centre clearances, where the inside beasts thrive. Watch closely and you'll see that Mitchell's centre work is more and more often done from the HBF, running through.

His contested possession rate is low,only about 1/3, and very few of them are hard ball gets. Lots of loose balls and opponent in the vicinity touches. Ironically,many of those cheap one two handballs he loves so much count as TWO contested possessions. Bizarre, isn't it. And yet still his contested numbers are low.

If you think Titchell is an inside player you are sadly mistaken. He should be, because what he has above all else is great hands in traffic (he's a world class chucker too, probably the best since Murali retired).

But Tom prefers the open spaces more. Even though both his pace and his general disposal skills are far below what is required in an effective outside mid.
