It's a tricky one, I don't think he's a great captain, especially lately, but I think overall he hasn't been a bad one. Just unable to single handedly lift up a flailing club, and to be fair, he is only one guy. This team has constantly found ways to kill careers, either of players or coaches, I think the problem goes deeper than one bloke.

Is there a chance you could just leave one thread that you enter uninfected instead of turning it into the forum equivalent of a dysentery victim in a slum in a third world city somewhere near the equator or is it just mandatory for you by this point?
Strikes me as a kid and probably gets a bit excitable on the keyboard when it comes to shitfights.

Edit: join date of 2006. Uh.. Hmm

No fantasy, the youtube video I posted showed Cripps not even trying to chase the Wizard. He also won 2 of the most undeserving brownlows in the history of the brownlow medal.

Cripps was gassed after running hard to get into a defensive position and essentially wrong footed by a much quicker and nimbler Watson.

Such a silly example to bring up, honestly. Where was Watson’s direct opponent in that moment? The fact Cripps was one of two Bluuz players that pushed back into the defensive area would suggest he wasn't lazy, etc.

Cripps should be open to the highest bidder to the end of the season.

In fact I suggested we should be trading him a few years back and got howled down from all and sundry, his value was at the highest point back then, he's not worth much now.
Interesting question what sort of value he'd get now

Just stating cold hard facts. Cripps doesnt do the hard yards or inspire his team to lift when it matters.
Absurd nonsense, either sheer ignorance or trash tier trolling.

Immensely respected lead from the front type captain, not known for slick media performance.

Is he that onfield coach type? Don't think so, but a very fine old fashioned leader.

Not as good as Kernahan, but good call earlier he's their best since.

As a player has run himself into the dirt, some very ordinary snipes ITT. Cripps is huge part of any success eg 2024 finals that Carltonbhave had.

Cripps has been an outstanding player over the years, but like Bontempelli, he just doesn’t strike me as a natural leader. Both are elite footballers, yet there’s a fair argument their teams might have had more success if they’d been left to focus purely on their own game while stronger leaders took the reins.

Being a good player doesn’t automatically translate into being a good leader.

Probably the best thing carlton have done in its recent history. Taking the captaincy off lil marc Murphy and giving it to a proper leader in Cripps.
Very similar to n.melb and little jye jye. Larkey is a much better fit than simpkin, I would’ve had George but anyway, anything was an improvement on simpkin.

Would West Coast have use for him or have even they gone past needing a player with those flaws, on the decline? A big body could help their younger mids and take some heat off Reid.

I actually think he'd more excel in a better established team with a better balanced list, like Kennedy going to the Bulldogs. Could use his strengths more and be a real handful for the opposition and not be as exposed for the weaknesses.

You've accidentally made my point for me.

Graham averaging 7 contested possessions and 3 clearances this season.

Cripps is up around 14 and 7 respectively.
Graham has been a solid citizen in a team crying out for them. He’s been good and performing the role he was brought over for. On and off field. Training standards etc.

I'm as critical of Cripps as anyone, but his output is still at least double that of Graham. In the indusry we'd call that an upgrade.
I’m not being critical of Cripps, just pointing out the fact that Graham has been very good for WCE. In the industry we’d call that an astute bit of recruiting.

Nowhere did I criticise Graham. I said Cripps has double his contested possessions and clearances, so as the big bodied protector mid could still help them more. We are appear to be misunderstanding each other.

Jack Graham will be missing his THIRD game this season. I would expect Cripps to be leading all stats with a three game head start.
