Bonts Grand Final performance was a little underrated IMO. Didn't get huge numbers but used the ball incredibly well in a scrappy high pressured game.

Absolutely ... 22 possessions with 20 effective including every kick. His poise and the time he has is amazing, especially in a fierce game like the Grandfinal

14 kicks at 100% effectiveness. Not a single one went sideways or backwards. Average distance of 35.1 meters gained; the highest average on the ground.

Also don't forget about his 9 hitouts. Here's an example at 15m40s in.

He was the cleanest and most composed player in a Grand Final. His game was absolutely faultless both offensively and defensively.

Bont was AA at 20 this year. He was outstanding in the final series and GF.

Bont is the youngest B&F winner in a premiership year since Leigh Matthews.

He also beat E.J. Whitten to a flag and B&F in the same year (i.e. played less games).

Not bad company.

Cripps will be a gun; but he is not at the Bont level yet.

Is it cruel to point out that Richmond took Ben Lennon with the pick just prior to Cripps?

Imagine Cripps with Dusty and Cotchin. Shaysus.

How does everyone reckon these two will go this year? Will Bont win the Brownlow? Will Cripps go past Bont? Will they end up in the AA team?

Cripps stuffed his back so hasn't had much of a preseason. Sounds like he's pushing to be ready for round 1 so doubt he'll be at his best for a while.

No chance he'll go past Smelli

Unlucky that he got injured at a critical time in the pre season. I feel that he will have a similar start to Bontempelli last year, where his limited pre-season hampered him at the beginning of the year and as a result only started really hitting his straps in Round 6 or 7. After that Cripps will really assert himself as an elite play of this competition though. He is my favourite player to watch outside of my own club.

I think that Bont will continue his upwards trajectory and start consistently dominaing games this year though. He really is a special player, our fans are so blessed to have him playing for our club. I expect him to give Dangerfield a good run for his money this year in the Brownlow, possibly even winning the whole thing :)

Cripps missing pre season will be a blessing in disguise for him. Won't have to carry all the workload that he has in previous years. Especially with Murphy back. Being able to play predominantly as a forward for the first 6 weeks, while he gains fitness will help him turn into a more dynamic footballer. Looking forward to Bont vs Cripps in crunch finals.

No brownlow type season for cripps this year with the set back but fingers crossed it means he can play a chf type roll early on and kick a bag of 5 i'd certainly love to see him add that to his list of assests

Sounds like Bont has had a pretty limited preseason too, spending a lot of it in a moonboot, and of course starting preseason 4 weeks later too. So looks like both might jump out of the blocks a bit slow but so keen to see what they're doing in the 2nd half of the year!

I wouldn't. The value is clearly a huge amount over what Bont is worth, but that's not how footy clubs generally work.

Ding ding ding.

We have a winner.

Some people seriously do not get that some players are simply not for sale, no matter the offer on the table.
